DreamWorks Animation Dates ‘Forgotten Island’ for Fall 2026 Release

The movie “Forgotten Island,” produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures, has been scheduled for a theater release on September 25, 2026.

Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado are slated to pen and helm the upcoming feature film. Details about the storyline remain scarce, but the movie is being billed as a “humorous journey through an adventure on a mystical island steeped in Philippine folklore that has been lost to time.” Mark Swift, who has worked with Crawford for a long time, will produce this film.

Mercado’s debut directorial effort will be ‘Forgotten Island.’ Previously, he served as co-director on ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,’ and as the head of story for ‘The Croods: A New Age,’ under Crawford.”

In “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” Crawford pushed the boundaries of animation, stating to EbMaster, “You can see the brushstrokes, making it seem like you’re watching a painting come to life.” He praised the film’s narrative moments and blended 2D influences within its 3D design.

DreamWorks Animation recently unveiled “The Wild Robot,” a film that earned three Academy Award nominations, including one for best sound, and garnered nine Annie Awards. Coming up later this year are the sequel to “The Bad Guys” titled “The Bad Guys 2,” as well as the live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.

At CinemaCon, the yearly gathering for cinema theater owners, Universal Pictures declared that they will unveil the live-action version of “How to Train Your Dragon 2” in the year 2027. This move demonstrates their optimism about the first remake slated for cinemas this coming summer.
