Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake on Nintendo Switch cannot be upgraded to the Nintendo Switch 2 version

Square Enix has released an updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for the “Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake,” clarifying that there will be no upgrade option available for the Nintendo Switch or potential successor, the Nintendo Switch 2.

Additionally, Square Enix clarified that the Switch 2 edition and the original Switch release of the game are distinct entities, meaning you can’t transfer your progress from one to the other. However, it’s important to note that the Switch version will be playable on the Switch 2 through backward compatibility.
