Dragon Ball Daima beaten by surprise new anime on Netflix

As a gamer with over three decades of anime fandom under my belt, I must say that the recent rise of DanDaDan on Netflix has left me somewhat intrigued and a tad concerned for Dragon Ball Daima‘s future. While I’ve been following Goku’s adventures since the days of the original Dragon Ball Z, it’s always exciting to see new anime properties taking off, especially when they manage to garner such consistent viewership as DanDaDan has done.

Currently, Dragon Ball Daima has begun streaming a few episodes on Netflix; however, Goku’s tenure on the platform doesn’t hold the title of the most prominent anime series this season.

The highly anticipated anime series, Dragon Ball Daima, is being considered as one of the largest releases this year. Not only does its revival of the Z Fighters in an animated show spark excitement, but given the recent demise of creator Akira Toriyama, it becomes a must-watch for longtime fans.

As a dedicated Netflix viewer, I’m thrilled that they’ve secured the TV show for streaming across key regions like the UK and US. However, it’s no secret that competition on their platform is tough. Interestingly enough, it’s a fresh addition, DanDaDan, that’s been drawing in the audiences lately.

For the week ending October 13, 2024, Netflix’s Top 10 list placed DanDaDan in the second position. Lately, it has been ranked seventh on FlixPatrol’s daily top ten chart for October 20th.

Alright, You know, it’s strange that Daima isn’t showing up in any rankings right now. It might be tempting to hail DanDaDan as the new king, overthrowing Goku and Vegeta, but we need to consider several factors first.

Initially, it’s important to note that Netflix isn’t your sole option for watching the latest Dragon Ball series. In fact, Crunchyroll also carries it. However, unlike these two platforms, DanDaDan is exclusive to certain content, making it a focus of heavier promotion.

On DanDaDan, you’re more likely to encounter dashboard advertisements and homepage buttons compared to Daima (from my personal observations). The reason being, it’s a novelty, making it accessible for newcomers, whereas Daima carries a 40-year history that might deter potential viewers due to its established legacy.

Regardless of the cause, it’s consistently invigorating to witness new projects flourishing, especially considering that Demon Slayer is about to conclude, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia mangas ended this year, and Dragon Ball’s future is unclear at present. However, it’s evident that the next wave of creators will carry on with success.
