Regarding HBO’s adaptation of the Harry Potter series, I find myself eager to see which aspects remain consistent and which ones will undergo changes. For instance, certain features like Harry’s round spectacles or the Weasleys’ red hair may stay the same. However, other elements might subtly transform. Recently, a fan made an astute observation about the actor portraying Draco Malfoy that illustrates one minor yet impactful way this transformation could occur.
In early June, it was announced that Draco Malfoy, along with a group of additional characters including Molly Weasley, the Dursleys, and Seamus Finnigan, would be joining the cast. Regarding Draco specifically, Lox Pratt has been chosen to portray the character previously played by Tom Felton. His promotional photo showcases him sporting curly, blonde hair.
Here’s where the re-posting happens, as @nikicaga shared a comparison picture featuring Chris Pratt and Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy from an earlier ‘Harry Potter’ movie, with the caption:
Incredible showcase of the change of what is the ‘annoying rich white boy haircut’ in 2000 and 2025
By clicking on the post, you’ll notice that Lox Pratt sports curly golden locks. On the other hand, Felton is known for his platinum blonde, sleeked-back hairstyle. It’s possible that the upcoming Draco might sport a similar look given that the picture of this new actor is a headshot, rather than a character poster. Nevertheless, the observation from this fan is worth considering.
In the 2000s, the sleek, combed-back hairstyle was prevalent, particularly among characters portrayed as villainous or bad boys. Consider Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl, for instance. He was obnoxious, wealthy, and often malicious, and he sported multiple versions of the polished, structured hairstyle throughout the series. On the other hand, characters like Nate and Dan, who weren’t as rich or unkind, had more casual, messy hairstyles.

Currently, today’s entitled rich youth are opting for less hair gel and favoring more natural styles. For instance, the upcoming Amazon Prime series, “We Were Liars,” set to air on June 18, focuses on a morally ambiguous wealthy family. The teenage character portrayed by Joseph Zada in this series is notable for his wavy blonde hair.

It seems like the point @nikicaga raised is quite thought-provoking. Fashion and fads are constantly shifting, and this includes hairstyles. Currently, there’s a trend among many individuals, particularly younger generations, to embrace their natural hair texture. They’re opting for less hair gel, regardless of their financial circumstances or mood.
Still uncertain about how the character Draco from the upcoming Harry Potter series will appear. They might choose to style his hair similar to the way they did with Felton in the early HP films, slicked back. On the other hand, aligning Draco’s look with Pratt’s curly hair could also be a suitable decision.

It doesn’t matter which one we go with, but I am thrilled to see the upcoming actor portraying Harry Potter’s adversary. Additionally, I can hardly wait to witness the performances of the fresh faces taking on the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. While Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione), and Alastair Stout (Ron) may not physically resemble Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, they each embody a similar spirit, and the same can be said for our new Draco Malfoy actor.
Regardless of whether their appearances match the ones from the films exactly or have slight variations, I’m confident they’ll perform admirably and effectively portray their characters.
While it’s unfortunate that we’ll need to wait a bit longer, as the Harry Potter series is not due for release just yet. In the interim, you might enjoy revisiting the actors who originally brought these characters to life by streaming the enchanting movies on HBO Max. Don’t forget those iconic hairstyles!
