Draco Malfoy Returns After 24 Years!

One of the well-known actors from the Harry Potter series recently broke a record by rejoining the franchise 24 years after his debut in the initial Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone film. Since the first book was brought to life on screen in 2001, the Harry Potter franchise has been a major force in the entertainment world. Although the movie series concluded in 2011, the influence of Harry Potter continues to resonate in pop culture, with plays on Broadway and an upcoming HBO television series keeping the world alive.

Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy in all movies of the original Harry Potter series, is set to come back to the franchise on November 11, 2025. He will be part of the cast for the Broadway play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, in New York City. Felton will once again take up his role as Draco Malfoy, breaking a record that has stood for 24 years.

Tom Felton has set a new record for portraying the same character within a franchise over an extended period. Having debuted as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone back in 2001, his return to the role in the Broadway play in 2025 will mark 24 years of playing this character across various installments.

In the aftermath of securing his role in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child“, Felton disclosed that he would be involved with the performance for a span of 19 weeks. Starting from November 11, 2025, his debut appearance will take place, and his last show is scheduled for March 22, 2026.

The play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is generating anticipation, as some are curious if it might one day become a movie. Notably, this production will also serve as Tom Felton’s Broadway debut. It has been fourteen years since he last portrayed Draco Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.”

In simple terms, although several performers from the initial Harry Potter movie series have continued to be associated with the franchise, none of them have ever taken on their original roles in a Broadway performance or any other stage production.

Example: Just like the fictional characters Fred and George Weasley, portrayed by Oliver and James Phelps, have taken part in Harry Potter-themed contests, such as “Harry Potter’s Magical Bake-Off” on the Food Network.

It’s noteworthy to add that although they didn’t reprise their roles as Harry Potter characters, some of the actors have been involved with the franchise again in different capacities.

Many enthusiasts of the “Harry Potter” series are likely acquainted with the thrill rides at Universal parks, particularly the one in Orlando. In the “Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts” ride at Universal Studios, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint filmed scenes for this attraction post-release. Since the opening of this ride occurred after the film series concluded, they effectively portrayed their characters for a longer period than other actors associated with the franchise.

It’s important to mention that Imelda Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge in the movie series, reappeared in scenes for the film titled “Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry“, a fresh attraction that debuted in May 2025 at Universal’s latest theme park, Epic Universe.

In 2007, Umbridge, portrayed by Staunton, made her first appearance in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. Now, with the debut of “Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry” in 2025, Staunton has been playing Umbridge for a total of 18 years. This makes her tenure as Umbridge the second-longest, after Felton is set to reprise his role as Draco.

Will Tom Felton Appear in the New Harry Potter TV Series?

Given Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child“, there’s speculation he might be open to appearing in HBO’s forthcoming “Harry Potter” television series. (Here’s a look at the cast for the upcoming show.)

It’s been suggested that fans are eager for Felton to portray a fresh character in the upcoming series; however, it appears that HBO and the show’s decision-makers have stated their preference for not casting original actors in the new production.

It’s important to mention that, as reported by Daily Mail, Felton won’t appear on screen in the HBO series, but he will be contributing off-camera, presumably in a behind-the-scenes role; specific details about his involvement are not yet known.

Consequently, it’s certain that Felton will be involved in the upcoming project, as they have rectified a significant issue that plagued the previous films.
