As a gamer, I’ve gotta spill the beans about the latest scoop on Dr Disrespect. Contrary to rumors, his split from the San Francisco 49ers isn’t linked to his Twitch ban. The real reason? It’s under wraps for now, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled for more info!
This year, it was disclosed by ex-Twitch workers that streamer Dr Disrespect (whose real name is Guy Beahm) was suspended from the platform back in 2020 due to him messaging a minor.
Despite admitting to the accusations and temporarily stepping away from live streaming, Doc eventually came back several months later and disclosed additional information about the incident. He claimed that Twitch had manipulated the situation by orchestrating the ban, while misconstruing the messages involved in it.
As a result of the reason behind his Twitch ban, numerous brands decided to cease collaborations with Doc, and among them was specifically the San Francisco 49ers NFL team.
Regarding these recent events, we’ve decided not to collaborate with him any longer,” the 49ers shared with Digiday following the revelation.
Yet, it was disclosed on November 18th by Beahm that the choice to cease collaboration wasn’t triggered by the reasons for his Twitch ban, which surfaced later. Instead, this decision originated from his stance regarding choosing pronouns in the game Starfield.
Midway through the previous year, let me take you back to a real event. Do you recall the Bethesda game that was like a stream? I believe you’re thinking of Starfield. Remember when we were designing our character? We encountered a section where we were given options for pronouns. However, we chose not to say much and instead merely looked at it.
During the 2023 live broadcast, Doc found himself momentarily speechless as a choice to pick pronouns appeared on the screen, followed by a noticeable sigh.
Later on, he looked up the X account belonging to the publishing head at the studio, and discovered that this individual had specified their pronouns in their profile. “Now it’s becoming clear,” Beahm commented.
Doc was informed by the San Francisco 49ers that they would be pausing their collaboration with him, as there had been issues connected to his live streaming activities.
“So, we stopped collaborating with them for the remainder of the year,” he explained, “and their recent PR response is understandable, given the issues from a few months back.” As he addressed the team’s staff, he emphasized, “It would be beneficial for those individuals to leave that organization.
The YouTube personality expressed his continued support for the team, despite the ongoing debate about pronouns in Starfield causing controversy. He hopes they continue to succeed.
It’s not just Dr Disrespect who seemed to have problems with the pronouns in Starfield; another streamer went on a profanity-laced tirade about them, which earned them criticism from Pokimane, The Act Man, and others.
