Don't Expect A Remake Of The First Metal Gear Solid Anytime Soon

As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours sneaking around shadows and taking down enemies with the perfect headshot, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and patience regarding the potential remake of Metal Gear Solid 1. While it’s heartening to see the series getting a fresh coat of paint with titles like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, it’s clear that the masterminds behind the franchise are prioritizing the longevity and preservation of the Metal Gear universe.

It’s not unusual these days to see classic games getting revamped or enhanced as remakes and remasters, with titles like Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil 2 and 4, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 being released on consoles over the past four years. However, while we can look forward to a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, it’s important to note that a remake for the original game isn’t likely in the near future.

In an interview with Famitsu and translated by Business Insider Genki, Metal Gear Solid series producer Noriaki Okamura didn’t completely rule out the idea of more remakes, like the previously mentioned Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, he made it clear that there are currently no plans for another remake in the near future.

Before all those who initially contributed to the Metal Gear series are no longer around, it’s crucial that we establish a way to keep the series alive for the next 10 or even 50 years, as stated by Okamura. I firmly believe that this is an important task.

It’s interesting to note though as Konami is already heavily involved in another path with a series of remakes and re-releases. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, a Volume 1, bundles the first five games including Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. A volume 2 is in the works, presumably with parts of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.

Despite being remade for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004 as “Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes,” this version has since developed a high level of popularity among collectors.

Okumara mentioned that the company is presently pondering over the subsequent actions for the franchise. However, they’re holding off on making decisions until they evaluate the response to Metal Gear Solid Delta first, before proceeding with further plans.
