The new DK Island + Emerald Rush DLC gives longtime fans a delightful new area to discover and a fresh game mode that offers a different experience from the original game.
So, I was super excited to start playing the DK Island + Emerald Rush DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza, and here’s what I figured out to get everything going!
How to start the DK Island + Emerald Rush DLC in Donkey Kong Bananza
To play the DK Island + Emerald Rush DLC in Donkey Kong Bananza, you first need to buy it from the eShop for $20 and make sure it’s downloaded. Once it’s installed, you can launch the game and begin. Keep in mind that the DLC’s content and how you access it will depend on how far you’ve gotten in the main game.
Once you’ve finished the game, go back to a saved game and talk to any of the Elders. They’ll tell you about rehearsals, which is the main thing to do after beating the game. After that, you can go to any warp gong to hear about DK Island and unlock fast travel there. DK Island will then always appear first on the list of available areas.
If you haven’t finished the game yet, you can talk to Squawks in the Racing Layer to unlock DK Island. You’ll be able to explore the island right away, but you’ll need to beat the game first to unlock the Emerald Rush mode.
Okay, so when I finally landed on DK Island, I was a little surprised – there weren’t any Banandium Gems to hunt down! It quickly became clear this island is more about giving us older fans a fun throwback and acting as a home base. There *are* still secrets to find, and I can trade Banandium Chips with Squawks for awesome collectible statues of Donkey Kong characters and baddies. But honestly, the biggest thing is talking to Void Kong to kick off the Emerald Rush mode – that’s where the real adventure begins!
