Donald Trump, who is about to become President, has chosen Dr. Mehmet Oz, a well-known television personality, as his pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Dr. Oz is a retired cardiothoracic surgeon who once taught at Columbia University and hosted “The Dr. Oz Show” from 2009 to 2022. This daytime talk show covered health, wellness, and on occasion, true crime. It was jointly produced with Harpo Studios, owned by Oprah Winfrey. Over time, Dr. Oz has faced criticism from medical professionals for his advocacy of pseudoscience, homeopathy, and alternative treatments.
The television show hosted by Dr. Oz concluded in 2022, as Oz pursued the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania’s Senate position. Unfortunately, he was defeated by Sen. John Fetterman. Interestingly, just a few days prior, Trump had chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a critic of vaccines, to serve as secretary of health and human services. Kennedy Jr., in fact, had previously faced criticism for his vaccine skepticism on the Dr. Oz Show years ago.
