Donald Trump Calls Olympics Opening Ceremony a ‘Disgrace’ for Mocking ‘Last Supper,’ Even Though Organizers Said the Tableau Was a Nod to Dionysus

As a movie lover with a deep appreciation for history and culture, I find the controversy surrounding the Paris Olympics opening ceremony both disappointing and disturbing. I have always believed that the Olympics is a symbol of unity and inclusivity, bringing people from all corners of the world together to celebrate human spirit and achievement.

Donald Trump criticized Laura Ingraham of Fox News for finding the Paris Olympics opening ceremony’s controversial tableau disappointing. The scene, which some viewers compared to Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” featured drag queens instead of religious figures. However, the organizers clarified that their intention was not to reference “The Last Supper” but to honor Dionysus, the Greek god associated with wine and festivities.

During a discussion on Fox News, when Ingraham mentioned that the opening ceremony of an event mocked “The Last Supper,” Trump expressed his disapproval by stating, “I found it disrespectful.” Following this, Ingraham inquired if Trump would hold sufficient power to prevent any Christian insults during the Olympics should he be re-elected president, as the 2028 summer Olympics are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles during his potential term.

Trump stated, “There won’t be a reenactment of the Last Supper like the one depicted the other night. To put it frankly, I believe that depiction was in poor taste. Let me emphasize, I’m all about inclusivity and open-mindedness. You know this about me, don’t you? I value open-mindedness, but I felt what they did was utterly disrespectful.”

1. The opening ceremony’s presentation has drawn criticism from several conservative figures in Hollywood, such as Rob Schneider and Candace Cameron Bure. Schneider expressed his intention to boycott the remainder of the Paris games due to the controversial presentation that openly celebrated satanism. Bure found the presentation distasteful.

Thomas Jolly, the artistic director for the Olympics, spoke with BFMTV following the opening ceremony and clarified that “The Last Supper” was not referenced in any way. Instead, he explained that the concept aimed to create an elaborate pagan festival inspired by the gods of Mount Olympus, as evidenced by the prominent depiction of Dionysus in the tableau.

Anne Descamps, a representative for the Olympics, assured the Associated Press that no disrespect to any religious group was intended during the event. She expressed belief that this goal was successfully met. Apologies were extended if anyone was offended.

Following the uproar over the tableau, French DJ and activist Barbara Butch has reported multiple threats to her life to the police after her involvement. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office acknowledged receipt of a report regarding cyberbullying towards her by EbMaster.
