Don Mischer, Prolific Live Event Director and 15-Time Emmy Winner, Dies at 85

Live event maestro Don Mischer, who won an impressive 15 Emmys throughout his career, passed away on April 11th as per the confirmation of EbMaster. He was 85 years old.

Beyond his Emmy accolades, Mischer has also been recognized with a record 10 Director’s Guild of America Awards for exceptional directing work, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the International Cinematographers Guild Publicists. Among his many accomplishments are “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,” “The Kennedy Center Honors,” ABC’s “Taking the Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America,” the 100th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall, Super Bowl Halftime shows featuring Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen. More recently, he directed “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular,” a special celebration marking Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary.

Mischer was not only in charge of the opening ceremonies for both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, but he also held director positions for the 83rd, 84th, and 85th Academy Awards, including their red carpets, the 71st Emmy Awards, and the Annual 9/11 Memorial Commemoration that takes place at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan.

Mischer is mourned by his spouse, Suzan, as well as his four kids – Lily, Heather, Jennifer, and Charlie – and also his two grandchildren.
