Jambika Docs gains the authority to sell Don Millar’s “Loot: A Tale of Crime and Forgiveness,” a gripping investigative documentary that exposes the shady business of Cambodian antiquity trafficking and the international art organizations involved in this unlawful activity.
The movie debuted at FIFA in Montreal, then went on to be chosen for screenings at Doc Edge New Zealand, CIFF Cambodia, and Balinale Indonesia. Jambika Docs plans to pitch the film at Sheffield DocFest, Sunnyside of the Doc, and Docs Ireland, along with several other events.
The documentary titled ‘Loot’ highlights significant figures in Cambodia’s black market artifacts trade, such as “Blue Tiger,” a former child soldier who now champions artifact repatriation, and U.S. Homeland Security personnel involved in ‘Operation Indochina Peninsula Plunder.’ This operation successfully dismantled the activities of Douglas Latchford, a British antiquities dealer.”
“‘Loot’ is a documentary showcasing key participants in Cambodia’s illegal artifact trade. These figures range from Blue Tiger, a former child soldier advocating for artifact return, to US Homeland Security officials who spearheaded ‘Operation Indochina Peninsula Plunder,’ which eventually closed down the operations of Douglas Latchford, a British antiquities dealer.
The movie takes us on a journey – from the war-scarred temple ruins littered with landmines in Cambodia to the pristine galleries of prestigious museums in London and New York. It showcases the breathtaking difference between those struggling in poverty, who plunder artifacts, and the affluent individuals who reap profits from their actions.
In the process of returning pilfered Khmer artifacts, such as those returned in July 2024 from the Met Museum, the film “Loot” narrates the inspiring journey of a nation regaining and restoring its cultural heritage.
Juan Solera, co-founder of Jambika Docs, stated that we obtained ‘Loot’ due to its unique blend of thorough investigation and deep emotion. This film illuminates a seldom-discussed aspect of the art world, one that many are hesitant to reveal. For us, it is an impactful tale of justice, self-discovery, and global responsibility that needs to be shared with a broad audience.
The film is produced by New Theory Pictures in Canada.
