The unexpected departure of Joy Reid from MSNBC has sparked heated reactions from both current and past TV news figures. More recently, Don Lemon criticized Megyn Kelly through Instagram (as reported by The Daily Beast), with Kelly praising Reid’s exit by labeling her as the “most unpleasant individual on television.
Allow me to express this to Megyn Kelly,” Lemon said directly to the camera. “Over the course of my more than three decades as a journalist, and nearly five decades as a person of color, I would like to say, ‘Take a long walk off a short pier.’
Lemon criticized Kelly, labeling her as a “troll” and “racist,” and refuted her assertion that Reid often targeted white women on the show and made fun of their tears.
In this rephrasing, I’ve used simpler words and a more conversational tone to make the sentence easier to read and understand.
Indeed, the most detestable figure on television was let go by NBC and the ‘Today’ show some time ago, and that’s Megyn Kelly,” Lemon retorted. “But now, the one who’s not even on television anymore, the truly awful one, is you! So, bravo for that change. It seems NBC made a wise decision in letting you go.”
Or more casually:
“Well, Megyn Kelly was the one causing all the trouble on TV and she got fired from NBC and ‘Today’ show some time back,” Lemon said. “Now it’s someone else who’s off the airwaves causing issues – that would be you! Kudos to NBC for making a smart move there.
Later, Lemon delved into Kelly’s questionable past, bringing up the controversial instance from 2018 where Kelly supported Blackface costumes for Halloween. He further aimed to uncover Kelly’s history of criticizing other women on television, such as CNN host Kaitlan Collins. Lemon played a clip showing Kelly referring to Collins as “dull with no personality” and a “cold-hearted witch.
Lemon questioned, ‘Was that comment truly essential?’ He also wondered, ‘How does making such a remark aid women’s empowerment?’ Instead, she might have provided helpful suggestions like, ‘You should try to forge a rapport or connection with your audience.’ There was no need for her to use disrespectful language towards the woman.
Later on, Lemon expressed, “I had a friendly relationship with Megyn Kelly. However, when someone reveals their true character, it’s crucial to take them at their word, as we ought to have anticipated this behavior.
Reid’s departure from MSNBC sparked criticism from her network colleague Rachel Maddow, who expressed disappointment towards her own company for what she perceived as a “mistake.” She further described it as unjustifiable that MSNBC would dismiss “two prime-time hosts of color,” specifically mentioning Reid and Alex Wagner.
