As a lifelong fan of both Stranger Things and A Wrinkle in Time, I’m absolutely thrilled to see the connection between these two beloved stories. The title ‘Escape From Camazotz’ in the upcoming season 5 has sent my heart racing with anticipation!
The names of the last eight episodes of Stranger Things have been revealed, and one title hints at a link to the famous novel A Wrinkle in Time.
Today marks “Stranger Things Day,” referring to the day when character Will Byers vanished back in 1983, and in honor of this special occasion, Netflix has shared a video showcasing the titles for the last eight episodes of the science fiction series.
Here you’ll discover all the names for Stranger Things Season 5 episodes. These titles hint at themes like escape, vanishing, magic, and even a potential nod towards a radio broadcast.
However, what catches my attention the most is Episode 6 titled ‘Escape From Camazotz,’ as it echoes a mythical beast or a captivating tale from a fantasy book.
What is Camazotz in the Wrinkle in Time book?
In Madeline L’Engle’s 1962 children’s book “A Wrinkle in Time” and its 2018 film adaption, Camazotz is one of the planets that appears.
In the story, the protagonists journey to this location, only to find out that Camazotz is a dismal realm where collective thought thrives excessively due to the spread of The Black Thing.
Individuals inhabiting our world often exhibit a uniformly automated behavior, as their thoughts are governed by an ethereal entity referred to as IT, possessing psychic abilities akin to telepathy. This situation bears some resemblance to the struggle between human characters and the mind-controlling creatures from the alternative dimension in the series Stranger Things.
As a passionate viewer, I can’t help but notice the recurring nods to literature, television shows, video games, and films in the Netflix sensation we all love. Although A Wrinkle in Time isn’t an ’80s novel, the similarities are striking, leading me to suspect that Madeleine L’Engle’s cherished book will significantly impact Episode 6 of Stranger Things Season 5.
The mythical creature explained
In a nutshell, the supernatural series Stranger Things includes entities, and the character Camazotz might be connected to an age-old being from Mayan folklore, potentially impacting the storyline in Season 5 as well.
The Camazotz, with its elongated ears and expansive wings, resembles a demonic bat and carries out the commands of the rulers from the netherworld.
In my gaming world, I often encounter creatures named Camazotz, which roughly translates to “death bat” in the K’iche’ language. It seems this mythical beast could be inspired by real-life vampire bats or an oversized, flying mammal that may have once roamed the skies, but is now extinct.
In old Guatemalan manuscripts, the figures known as Camazotz come across the twin heroes Hunahpu and Xbalanque during their journey through the underworld’s challenges. Moreover, tales and folklore across South America often feature massive bat-like beings.
It’s possible that a large, bat-like monster could show up in Episode 6 of the fifth and last season of Stranger Things, or perhaps Dustin will be dressed up as Batman for Halloween instead.
