Presently, HBO Documentary Films is working on a film documenting the story of Flaco, the famous Eurasian eagle-owl who created a global buzz when he was unexpectedly released in New York City back in 2023.
Listening to Kenny G”) is set to be the director for an unnamed HBO documentary. This project will be produced by Gabriel Sedgwick as well. Additionally, Sandbox Films and Spinning Nancy are also involved in producing this upcoming documentary.
A full-length documentary delves into the intriguing tale surrounding Falco, a member of the world’s largest owl species, mysteriously vanishing from his enclosure at Central Park Zoo in Manhattan. The film chronicles the unexpected events that transpired when Falco, who had spent his entire life within confinement, was set free in New York City, captivating and puzzling residents of the city and far beyond with delight, worry, and curiosity.
Lane expresses, “Ever since my friend met Flaco on Fifth Avenue’s sidewalk, I’ve been hooked. I’ve spent countless sleepless nights fretting over him, and have forged strong bonds with a passionate bird-watching community who’ve chronicled his thrilling escapades. It’s an immense privilege to collaborate with Sandbox Films and HBO in bringing Flaco’s incredible tale to light for everyone to see.
Lane and Sedgwick appeal to the public for assistance in spreading pictures, clips, and individual accounts pertaining to Flaco.
HBO did not reveal when the doc will be released.
In March of 2023, Lane’s documentary titled “Confessions of a Good Samaritan” made its debut at the South By Southwest Film Festival. This thought-provoking film centered around Lane’s selfless act of donating one of her kidneys to a stranger. Sandbox Films distributed this film in June 2024, marking it as their inaugural theatrical release for documentaries. Notably, Sandbox Films specializes in producing documentaries that explore scientific research.
