Doctor Who Star ALMOST Played THIS Marvel Hero!

David Tennant, famously recognized for his role as The Doctor in the hit BBC science fiction show “Doctor Who”, has shared that he had a desire to portray a specific character from the Fantastic Four. After almost five years of speculation about who would be cast for the Fantastic Four, Marvel finally announced the cast on Valentine’s Day in 2024. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Their first appearance will be in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, followed by “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

At the MCM Comic-Con event, as reported by Bleeding Cool, David Tennant was questioned about which superhero character he would like to portray. Tennant mentioned Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, the head of the Fantastic Four. Although Tennant may have desired the part, he appears content with Pedro Pascal stepping into the role of the renowned Marvel hero. Tennant expressed his feelings by saying:

As for the topic of superheroes, I must admit I had a soft spot for Reed Richards. However, it seems they’re taking a different path. If I were to choose another character, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Pedro Pascal getting the role.

David Tennant’s Already Played One of the MCU’s Best Villains

David Tennant is not new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he portrayed Kilgrave in Jessica Jones. If Tennant had been chosen for Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, he wouldn’t have been the only actor transitioning from a role in the Defenders Saga to joining the Marvel family. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, known for his role as The Thing (Ben Grimm) in Punisher Season 1, is an example of this. Moreover, before Mahershala Ali took on the role of Blade, which keeps getting postponed, he previously played Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Luke Cage’s first season.

Despite not initially getting the chance to play Mister Fantastic, there’s still potential for Tennant to reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fact that Krysten Ritter is set to resume her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 could pave the way for Kilgrave’s return. Although Kilgrave was killed by Jessica Jones at the end of Season 1, he continues to haunt her psychologically as a symbol of her past trauma. Tennant hadn’t considered another comic book villain, expressing during MCM Comic-Con that:

“I think in terms of supervillains, I got the best one with Kilgrave.

David Tennant, an exceptionally skilled actor, might have been a suitable choice for Reed Richards due to his aptitude for technical jargon, showcased in his role as “Doctor Who.” However, it’s challenging to dispute Pascal as the ideal selection for Reed Richards, given the impressions from the trailers. Tennant and Pascal share a similar history, both having faced criticism from J.K. Rowling over their opposition to her support of anti-transgender legislation. Tennant, who portrayed Barty Crouch Jr. in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” was subjected to Rowling’s criticism after he stated that those challenging transgender rights were on the wrong side of history. Pascal, in turn, described Rowling’s behavior as “heinous loser behavior” following her post celebrating a U.K. Supreme Court ruling that did not recognize transgender women as women under Britain’s Equality Act. Regardless of whether it’s Tennant or Pascal, Mister Fantastic would wholeheartedly uphold the belief that trans rights are human rights.
