As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for delving into the intricacies of the television industry, I must say that the financial performance of Bad Wolf Productions has left me quite intrigued. A 49% increase in post-tax profits while grappling with a drop in revenue is indeed an impressive feat, reminiscent of a skilled acrobat juggling multiple balls without dropping any.

Despite seeing a decrease in annual income, the production company behind “Doctor Who,” known as Bad Wolf, managed to boost its profits by an impressive 49%.

In 2023, post-tax earnings stood at approximately $8.9 million (£7,072,610), but they increased to around $13.2 million (£10,554,620) in the following year, according to recent data. Meanwhile, pre-tax profits surged from £11 million last year to a whopping £15 million this year.

This is despite revenue dropping from £117 million in 2023 to £94 million in 2024.

The financial records, recently submitted to Companies House in the U.K., span a duration of one year, wrapping up on March 31, 2024.

The documents reveal that Bad Wolf’s projects categorized as “in production” have experienced a significant decrease in value, from £96 million last year to £72 million this year. One of the series that the company is planning is “The Other Bennet Sister,” which serves as a spin-off of Jane Austen’s classic novel “Pride and Prejudice.

The decline that’s affecting the overall U.K. production industry is mirrored in our company’s market-specific revenues as well. Over the past year, our UK revenue decreased significantly from £91 million to £70 million, while our US revenue saw a more modest decrease, falling from $26 million in 2023 to $24 million this year.

The production company Bad Wolf, headed by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, is renowned for hit shows like “Doctor Who,” “Industry,” and “His Dark Materials.” In 2021, this Wales-based firm, which also manages a sound stage facility in Cardiff, was reportedly purchased by Sony Pictures Television for approximately £60 million.

According to the records filed with Companies House, Bad Wolf is maintaining its dedication to Wales by making a pledge: “Bad Wolf intends to employ a Welsh workforce and grow the local labor pool. The company’s investment in local employment and businesses has brought significant economic advantages to the Welsh economy.
