Originally, three ex-cast members from the medical drama “Doctor Odyssey” on ABC have filed a lawsuit against 20th Century and its overarching corporation, Disney, claiming they allowed an ongoing pattern of sexual misconduct to persist on the show’s set for several months.
On Friday, a lawsuit was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court by plaintiffs Caroline Mack, Alicia Haverland, and Ava Steinbrenner. They allege that Tyler Patton, an assistant prop master on the show “Doctor Odyssey,” engaged in behavior such as making sexual jokes, inappropriate comments, and gestures, sharing explicit images, and unwanted physical contact like openly grabbing a female employee’s posterior.
In one claim within the lawsuit, it is stated that Patton supposedly sent a story to employees in the prop department, which seemed to relate to news about President Biden withdrawing from the 2024 election. However, the link led to an image of a naked man with an erect penis instead. Other accusations suggest that Patton referred to one of the plaintiffs as “chick” and said “come over here and open your mouth, here’s the worm.” This implies he invited them to receive something inappropriate or offensive.
On the TV series “Doctor Odyssey,” Tammie Patton served as the lead prop master, a role held by Tyler’s wife. The lawsuit alleges that both Tammie and Disney knew about past accusations of sexual harassment against Tyler before they hired him. In 2010, Tammie was mentioned in a lawsuit filed against Universal Network Television for alleged advanced instances of sexual harassment and retaliation on the set of “House.” Here, former employee Carl Jones claimed that Patton had inappropriately touched his genitals and made suggestive advances towards female colleagues.
The “Doctor Odyssey” uniform alleges that Patton’s harassment took place on a daily basis and quite often with management present. In one instance, it is claimed that during a confrontation, Patton stated something to the effect of, “If I weren’t sleeping with the boss, I’d be terminated.
Following reports from plaintiffs about Patton’s conduct, which resulted in his termination, it is claimed that Tammie Patton retaliated by making threats to their employment. Subsequently, the entire props department was let go; however, Disney swiftly hired a fresh team of employees shortly after this event, as stated in the complaint.
In simpler terms, the lawsuit states that the defendants deliberately erased all issues related to employee conduct in the Prop Department, which involved Tyler Patton and Tammie Patton, to avoid dealing with any remaining problems. Additionally, the plaintiffs allege that they have been unfairly marked or penalized by Disney as a form of retaliation for bringing forward their genuine complaints.
Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Currently, there’s no news about a second season for “Doctor Odyssey”. At present, it’s the only scripted show on ABC that doesn’t know if it will continue airing in the future.
