In Buenos Aires, Argentina, a priest surprised attendees at a rave by including a heartfelt homage to the late Pope Francis during his performance.
Father Guilherme Peixoto, a priest in Braga, Portugal since 1999, is known as the “DJ Priest.” He began organizing social events like club and karaoke nights early in his ministry, and later taught himself how to DJ using online tutorials.
I was so impressed to see what this DJ did during the pandemic! He started livestreaming his sets on Facebook, and that’s actually where everyone started calling him by his stage name. But the coolest thing? He just celebrated 25 years as a priest by playing a set for thousands of people in a nightclub in Ibiza! It was an amazing way to mark the occasion.
Techno set includes tribute to Pope Francis
Father Guilherme performed in Buenos Aires wearing his clerical collar and a rosary. His show featured techno remixes of the Super Mario Bros. theme song and ERA’s ‘Ameno,’ which incorporates elements of Gregorian chant.
The DJ honored Pope Francis, who recently passed away, by playing clips of his speeches and displaying a large photo of him on a screen. He also repeated the Pope’s famous encouragement to young people: “Make some noise!”
He told AFP he hoped the music at the event would inspire young people to want to make a difference when they returned home.
