Dispatch fans fuming over censorship in Nintendo Switch port

Players of the popular superhero game Dispatch, created by AdHoc Studio, were both puzzled and annoyed to find the game automatically censored on the Nintendo Switch.

Dispatch launched in late 2025 and was immediately popular with players. The game, created by a team of experienced developers from Telltale Games, focuses on the daily lives of superheroes. Players follow Robert Robertson, a former hero who now works as an emergency dispatcher, sending powered individuals to handle crises throughout Torrance, California – and sometimes, those crises involve actual fires.

This game is known for its strong language and often uses crude and suggestive humor. It also includes mature romantic content and scenes with complete nudity.

The PC and PlayStation 5 versions of the game offer options to customize the experience. Players can choose to censor nudity and even replace licensed music with royalty-free alternatives. These features are helpful for streamers wanting to avoid content restrictions, or for players who prefer a more family-friendly environment.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game, released in January 2026, doesn’t offer players the option to customize content. Unlike other versions, it’s completely censored from the start. This means all nudity is hidden with black boxes, swear words are replaced with beeps, and even the romantic sounds from a dream sequence featuring the characters Robert and Invisigal have been removed.

Dispatch completely censored by default on Nintendo Switch

The censorship surprised fans, and many were upset, feeling Nintendo had gone too far.

One player expressed disappointment with the Nintendo Switch version of Dispatch on X (formerly Twitter), noting the game includes automatic censorship that can’t be turned off. They said they would have preferred to buy the game on PlayStation 5 if they’d known about this beforehand, as the censorship wasn’t disclosed before launch.

I’m really disappointed that the Switch port doesn’t have a way to turn off censoring. It would have been okay if they had told us about this limitation beforehand, but they kept it a secret until after the game launched. If I’d known, I would have purchased the game on PlayStation 5 instead.

Man, I’m really bummed about how censored Dispatch is on the Switch. It seriously hurts the game, and I definitely wouldn’t have pre-ordered it if I’d known it would be like this. It’s not just the gameplay either – even the artbooks got the censorship treatment! It’s super frustrating.

The Switch version of Dispatch has a lot of censorship that really hurts the game’s quality. I wouldn’t have bought it beforehand if I’d known about these changes – they’ve even censored the artbooks!

It’s kinda funny, a lot of people were pointing out how Dispatch is being super strict with censorship, but then you look at the eShop and see tons of mature games. Like, even something as wild as Cyberpunk – full of violence, swearing, and adult content – is totally fine on the Switch. It just feels inconsistent, you know?

It’s frustrating that Nintendo seems to be censoring the game “Dispatch” on the Switch and upcoming Switch 2, while many sexually suggestive games remain available on the eShop. It doesn’t make sense, especially considering a mature game like Cyberpunk 2077 was allowed without issue. This feels like a strange and disappointing decision by Nintendo.

AdHoc Studios hasn’t addressed these issues, leading many fans to request refunds or buy the game on different platforms.

Despite the complicated circumstances surrounding its release, Dispatch is still a popular game and could even be nominated for an award at the 2026 Game Awards, even though it came out in late 2025.
