He’s always been critical of the current US leadership, but recently, he took a more direct approach with his new song, “Streets of Minneapolis.” The track, written in response to the shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, specifically mentions Trump twice in the lyrics. This release comes at a time when he’s already been in the spotlight due to the recently released biopic, which hasn’t performed well in theaters but is currently popular on Hulu.
Bruce Springsteen is at his best when his music has a clear meaning. His 2003 album, The Rising, powerfully channeled the energy of the E Street Band – reuniting them after twenty years – to reflect on the September 11th attacks. Now, twenty years later, the seasoned musician has released what many are calling one of his most urgent and relevant songs yet.
I was really struck by Bruce Springsteen’s new song, “Streets of Minneapolis.” It’s a powerful, nearly seven-minute track where he specifically mentions Alex Pretti and Renee Good. The lyrics, especially the lines about remembering those who died in Minneapolis during the winter of ’26, are incredibly moving. He doesn’t hold back either, calling out what he sees as injustice – referencing “King Trump’s private army” and labeling ICE agents as “Trump’s federal thugs.” Honestly, it’s rare to hear a song come out so quickly that captures so much of how divided things feel right now. You can listen to it below, and I highly recommend it.
