Disney’s Bringing Back Villain?! You Won’t Believe Who!

A new take on a classic Disney villain is making a comeback in a newly confirmed 2026 sequel.

In 2026, Rita Ora will reprise her character as the Queen of Hearts in “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland,” a follow-up to “Descendants: Rise of Red” from 2024, and the newest addition to the “Descendants” series produced by Disney Branded Television.

In the storyline of “Descendants: Rise of Red,” Rita Ora, portraying the monarch reminiscent of the classic Alice in Wonderland character, the Queen of Hearts, orchestrated a power grab against Auradon. However, this was thwarted when her daughter, Red (played by Kylie Cantrall), and Cinderella’s offspring journeyed back in time to alter the course of events. This narrative twist may have introduced some confusion regarding a prank-related plot hole within the “Descendants” series timeline. The upcoming sequel, “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland,” will delve into the Queen of Hearts’ present-day Wonderland, offering insights into the aftermath of her daughter’s time-altering actions.

In addition to Rita Ora, cast members from the TV show “Descendants 4” such as Kylie Cantrall (Red), Malia Baker playing Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, and Brandy in the role of Cinderella are also part of the Wicked Wonderland production.

Furthermore, it appears that the Queen of Hearts from “Wicked Wonderland” isn’t the sole villainess Disney plans to revive. In fact, multiple other wicked women have either been officially confirmed or are linked to returns starting from 2026 and beyond.

3 Villains Disney Is Planning To Bring Back

Te Kā in Moana

In the 2016 movie Moana, the main adversary, Te Kā, initially represented the nurturing island deity, Te Fiti. However, due to Maui’s actions at the beginning of the film, she transformed into a lava beast. It wasn’t until Moana restored her heart that Te Fiti was reborn and managed to dispel the encroaching darkness.

In 2026, Te Kā is set to reappear, and this time the audiences will witness an unprecedented lava monster version of her in Disney’s live-action remake of Moana, with Catherine Lagaʻaia portraying Moana and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui.

Maleficent in Maleficent 3

Additionally, Angelina Jolie is anticipated to appear on the big screen once more as Maleficent, the iconic antagonist from Sleeping Beauty. In 2014, she first portrayed this notorious character in the film Maleficent, which provided a unique look at the villain’s viewpoint within the Sleeping Beauty tale. A sequel to that movie, titled Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, was released in 2019.

According to reports, it appears that Disney might be working on a third installment of “Maleficent” with Angelina Jolie set to reprise her role. However, no official release date or further cast members have been revealed as of yet. (Information obtained from The Mirror in 2023)

Cruella in Cruella 2

A well-known figure in London’s fashion world, notorious for desiring puppies to create a new fur coat, is expected to make a dramatic return to the big screen. Much like the 2021 film Cruella, featuring Emma Stone, Maleficent gave Disney enthusiasts an insight into the backstory of the villainous character from The Hundred and One Dalmatians, detailing her transformation into the infamous fashion designer Cruella de Vil.

Back in 2021, Deadline revealed that work on a “Cruella” sequel was underway, with Emma Stone set to return for another portrayal. However, Disney has not shared any information about the release date as of now.
