In the newest blockbuster adventure by Guy Ritchie titled “Fountain of Youth“, characters traverse the globe in pursuit of the legendary fountain granting eternal life. The movie’s production team cleverly utilized a variety of authentic locations to breathe life into this captivating tale. The film shares similarities with movies such as “Indiana Jones” and “National Treasure” in its enthralling fusion of action and history, featuring standout performances by John Krasinski and Natalie Portman in the lead roles.
In a striking deviation from his usual practice, Richie chose an entirely fresh cast and ventured into an uncharted genre for this project, titled “Fountain of Youth.” Although the execution could have been smoother, the film is a delightful tribute to classic adventure movies that transports viewers back to their childhoods through its grand, nostalgic Hollywood narrative. Interestingly, production notes revealed that several real-world locations were used in the making of “Fountain of Youth,” as shared with Ebaster.
Bangkok, Thailand
The Opening Motorcycle Chase
In the very first scene of “Fountain of Youth”, we encounter one of the film’s most gripping segments straight away. Interestingly, this entire dramatic sequence was captured on-site in Bangkok, Thailand.
The thrilling high-speed pursuit, featuring Krasinski’s character, unfolds as he’s relentlessly pursued by the local mafia across the bustling heart of Bangkok. The realistic stunts and daring choreography set Fountain of Youth off with an explosive start. Originally, this chase was planned to take place in Mumbai, but the scouting team felt that the crowded streets of Bangkok would create a more gripping scene.
Vienna, Austria
The Library Fight Scene + Underground Sewer Escape
In the Austrian National Library, rather than during regular exhibition hours, Ritchie’s movie “Fountain of Youth” filmed one of its most thrilling scenes. This memorable sequence showcases Krasinski’s character engaged in a fierce fight, all while being captured with breathtaking drone shots. Additionally, the film’s sewer escape scene was shot in Vienna, using the very same location known for the famous scene from Carol Reed’s “The Third Man”, adding an iconic touch to “Fountain of Youth”.
Cairo, Egypt
The Great Pyramids of Giza
Despite the usual prohibition against landing aircraft near the Great Pyramids, Ritchie managed to do so during the filming of Fountain of Youth.
In one of the movie’s thrilling action sequences, the characters leap from a helicopter over the Egyptian desert, only to find themselves surrounded by both The Protectors and Interpol. This situation paves the way for what is arguably Ritchie’s most exhilarating fight scene yet. The film Fountain of Youth, reminiscent of other adventure films, appears to pay tribute to the timeless classics of the genre in this particular sequence.
Liverpool, England
High-Speed Car Chase
In the movie “Fountain of Youth“, there are numerous chase scenes, yet the high-speed pursuit through Liverpool stands out as one of its most impressive stunts. This thrilling sequence was meticulously filmed over the course of a week, skillfully mapping out a route that showcased the city’s narrow streets and picturesque vistas. Although the city was utilized exclusively for this chase scene, it effectively establishes the pulse-pounding journey of “Fountain of Youth” in England.
London, England
Interior Scenes + Lusitania Wreck
Most of the interior shots for “Fountain of Youth” were filmed at Leavesden Studios in London, even replicating the inner chambers of the Great Pyramids. Since filming within the genuine pyramids wasn’t an option, they constructed convincing replicas on-location. These sequences were hinted at in the “Fountain of Youth” trailer, and the resulting work is quite impressive. The studios were likewise utilized to fashion a model of the Lusitania wreck, as the original passenger ship lies 300 feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
