As a covert agent employed by a powerful international entity, you’ll be tasked with undercover operations aimed at discovering hidden truths and exerting influence, all while navigating the perils of death or exposure. ZA/UM highlighted the psychological toll of espionage in their announcement, noting that your character can manipulate the harsh realities of the world using mind-altering substances. This implies a strong focus on psychological themes and an examination of how espionage affects a person’s psyche.
In the presentation, the developers emphasized that the game incorporates nerve-wracking dice throws and significant dialogue decisions. They aim to create a sense of “the bitter taste of defeat” within the players’ experience. It’s been mentioned that the game integrates failure as an essential aspect to underscore the importance of player choices.
ZA/UM explained that Project C4 is centered around espionage, loyalty, and deception – quite unlike the glamorous portrayals seen in James Bond films. Instead, they drew inspiration from works by John le Carré, such as “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and cinematic styles reminiscent of Park Chan-wook’s masterpiece, “Old Boy.
