2019’s popular role-playing game Disco Elysium is making its way to a different stage: smartphones. The creators at ZA/UM Studio have shared that the game is undergoing a transformation, tailored explicitly for mobile devices and Android systems. This decision comes amid some legal disputes among the original developers of the game.
In a recent announcement, the developer expressed that they are crafting a completely new gaming experience specifically designed for mobile players. In their press release, the studio referred to the game as a “total re-envisioning” of the psychological RPG genre. Essentially, this means the mobile version has been carefully designed to accommodate shorter gaming sessions. You can watch a trailer of it below.
Chris Priestman, the narrative leader, described the mobile edition of Disco Elysium as something audiobooks aspire to be. In the trailer, you can notice that the mobile version offers a 360-degree view aimed at providing a more immersive experience for players. Additionally, it boasts fresh audio with full voiceovers.
In a statement, Studio Head Denis Havel (who was part of the initial game development) expressed that mobile gamers should enjoy rich, narrative-driven experiences similar to Disco Elysium. Furthermore, he mentioned that the team behind the mobile version strived to show deep admiration for the original’s artistic and thematic essence.
In the mobile version of Disco Elysium, you can play the initial two chapters at no cost. Once you’re ready to continue your adventure, you have the option to make a one-time payment to unlock all remaining chapters without encountering any ads.
You have the opportunity to register ahead of time for Disco Elysium through Google Play, with the game set to debut in Summer 2025. For those attending GDC 2025 next week, there will be a chance to play Disco Elysium on mobile devices at Google’s exhibit. At this point, we don’t have any information regarding a possible release for iOS.
As a disappointed gamer, I’ve got some news that might interest you: The planned Disco Elysium sequel was axed. However, instead of letting it dampen their spirits, the team behind it decided to break off and establish Longdue Games. Now, they’re working on a game that echoes its essence. On the other hand, ZA/UM, the original studio, is keeping busy too, cooking up Project C4 – a thrilling spy-adventure game.
