Digimon Story: Time Stranger details revealed at Digimon Con 2025

Fresh insights about the game “Digimon Story: Time Stranger” were unveiled during the Digimon Con 2025 schedule. Producer Ryosuke Hara, who was there on behalf of the development team, shared these updates at the event.

In this part of the game overview, we discussed the essential aspects of its gameplay, as well as the principal characters and Digimon featured within the narrative. Producer Hara noted that while Time Stranger will retain some elements from the previous Cyber Sleuth sub-series, the upcoming game promises a significantly expanded scope overall.

After watching the recent Digimon Special Moves trailer, you’ll discover our recap of the reveals for Digimon Story: Time Stranger just beneath it. This upcoming turn-based RPG is set to launch globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam in the year 2025.

Key Feature Points

  • Time Stranger will have several same key staff members from Cyber Sleuth sub-series: Suzuhito Yasuda as the character designer, Oh! great as the boss designer, and Masafumi Takada as the music composer.
  • While Cyber Sleuth had various areas across Tokyo depicted on a smaller scale, Time Stranger will have a closer focus on more detailed large-scale depictions of the Shinjuku and Akihabara areas.
  • The game’s digital world will be specifically known as Digital World: Iliad. The player can more frequently visit the Digimon’s living world compared to Cyber Sleuth.
  • The battle encounter system will use approachable enemy symbols.
  • In a new high record for the whole Digimon Story sub-series, over 450 Digimon species will be available to collect and train.

Story Synopsis

The narrative unfolds in the bustling city of Tokyo, Japan. Our main character is a member of ADAMAS, a clandestine group dedicated to unraveling and resolving unusual occurrences.

During the progression of their inquiry, they stumble upon a baffling entity known as a “Digimon” within a barricaded district called Shinjuku, governed by the authorities, and subsequently find themselves entangled in a puzzling detonation. Later, they regain consciousness eight years ago…

Key Characters and Digimon

In Time Stranger, the main characters will hereafter be referred to as Dan and Kanan Yuki. While in Cyber Sleuth, the character not selected by the player remains a part of the narrative as an operator.

According to the main illustration, you’ll find three initial Digimon choices in this game: Gomamon (representing the vaccine category), Patamon (symbolizing data types), and DemiDevimon (standing for virus types. Enjoy your selection!

In the narrative of Time Stranger, Inori Misono is set to be the central female character. Throughout the journey, she will travel alongside the selected main character, with her carrying a companion Digimon by her side.

The character from the trailer with a fantasy aesthetic was unveiled as Aegiomon, a Digimon that teams up with Inori. Interestingly, Aegiomon can participate in fights, occupying an additional battle position, which is the fourth slot, separate from the three-Digimon party of the player.

In the storyline of Time Stranger, the Digimon squad known as Olympos XII will take on significant roles, much like how the Royal Knights did in Cyber Sleuth. The Digimons featured from top left to right include Ceresmon, Junomon, Jupitermon, Neptunemon, Minervamon, Vulcanusmon, Marsmon, Apollomon, Bacchusmon, Dianamon, Venusmon, and Mercurymon. As an interesting tidbit, Apollomon and Dianamon were the final canonical evolutions of Coronamon and Lunamon, respectively – these two Digimons served as mascots for Digimon Story: Dawn and Dusk (known as Sunburst and Moonlight in their Japanese release).

Lastly, let me introduce you to the enigmatic boss character, which was crafted by the skilled Oh! great, a designer known for his work on the Eaters in the Cyber Sleuth spin-off series.
