He explained that Axis Mundi operates with its own specific set of rules, while Hollow Earth explores the concept of hidden spaces within the Earth itself.
Tunnell described the different locations as having distinct layers. He explained that Axis Mundi feels like a dead end, while Hollow Earth is a completely separate world within itself. Axis Mundi operates under its own set of rules, playing with concepts like time distortion and access to various creatures. Essentially, he described it as a completely unique and isolated place.
What really struck me about this film is its focus on the idea that the biggest mysteries aren’t necessarily out there in space, but right here on Earth. It taps into that feeling we all have that there’s so much we don’t know – whether it’s undiscovered creatures in the ocean depths or what else is hidden in the vastness of space. The filmmakers are clearly fascinated by that sense of the unknown, and they keep digging deeper into it, much like real-world scientists and explorers.
Tunnell explained that they’re constantly exploring ways to expand the story while remaining true to established lore and keeping fans engaged by showcasing the richness of their world.
The Hollow Earth theory suggests a literal space existing inside our world. In contrast, Axis Mundi refers to a place that transcends normal time and space.
