In the movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, it appears that Ilsa Faust is killed by the antagonist Gabriel on a bridge in Venice. However, some viewers think the ending hints that she may have actually survived.
Since her debut in Rogue Nation, one of our preferred Mission: Impossible films, Ilsa Faust has consistently been an enigmatic counterpart to Ethan Hunt. Portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson, Faust initially appears as a potential adversary, then transitions into an ally, and eventually becomes a romantic interest who keeps the audience guessing alongside Tom Cruise’s character.
Initially, her destiny unfolded in “Dead Reckoning,” leaving many fans disappointed. However, some speculate that there could be hints pointing towards Faust’s potential return in “Final Reckoning” contrary to initial expectations.
Faust encountered her end in “Dead Reckoning,” a turn of events that saddened fans. Despite the apparent absence of her character in “Final Reckoning,” some enthusiasts suggest that there may be indications hinting at her possible return.
In their final gathering, a brief instant arises, allowing Ilsa Faust to join the farewell mission of Mission: Impossible.
Mission Impossible’s final scene could confirm Ilsa Faust is still alive
Online fans have pointed out similarities between the last scene featuring Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and a previous shot of Isla Faust departing the screen in Rogue Nation. They believe the lady standing beside Hunt in the earlier movie might actually be Faust herself.
In Trafalgar Square, London, Hunt seems to merge with the bystanders, but for a moment, a woman who resembles Faust suddenly shows up beside him. To certain individuals, this fleeting encounter is strong enough proof that she might not have perished at all.

One fan responded to the comparison on X/Twitter with, “At first, I wasn’t convinced by this (and I was certain it was Grace), but now… I might just agree with you.
One person said, “Tom Cruise… we require verification!”, another commented, “I think if you ask McQ about this scene, he’ll surely smile, he definitely knows what he was up to.”, and a third observed, “Grace had left earlier, and the enigmatic woman wearing clothes distinct from Grace – a jacket and loose pants – wasn’t there by chance. She was walking alongside Ethan in the shot, it wasn’t an accident.
Initially, interviews with director Christopher McQuarrie hinted that Faust would not resurface in the last film. According to his explanation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, it’s a matter of cost versus benefit. The deaths of key characters have been a recurring theme throughout the movies featuring Ethan.
I hadn’t seen a character in any movie before that point touch audiences so profoundly, and I understand some people were unhappy with how it was handled. However, I believe nothing could persuade me to reverse the one element that makes the Mission: Impossible series unique – the fact that death is irreversible.
Some people believe that the Easter eggs aren’t quite extensive enough. One person commented, “I think Christopher McQuarrie is in this scene, but am I imagining it or did they also sneak Vanessa Kirby in there too? It could just be a random blonde woman, but I can’t help but feel like it’s her.
As a dedicated fan, I haven’t heard any official word yet from the Mission: Impossible crew on whether or not Faust will make an appearance in the climactic scene.
