Did Chris Butler go to prison? Netflix’s Trainwreck: PI Moms update

Chris Butler, the mastermind behind PI Moms – a detective service with potential for a reality TV series, has found himself in the spotlight due to a recent episode on Netflix’s Trainwreck. Here’s an update on this former police officer who turned into a criminal.

The Netflix documentary series titled “Trainwreck” delves into calamities and turmoil across various domains, featuring the latest installments covering Balloon Boy incident, Project X, the Poop Cruise, and the Astroworld catastrophe.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “Back in 2010, I was all hyped up when the Lifetime Channel decided to air a reality TV show. This wasn’t your average show though; it followed a private investigation agency run by none other than soccer moms!

However, despite the promising prospects for all parties, their cases seem to be disintegrating mysteriously, hinting at undercover sabotage possibly from within the ranks. This intrigue escalates when the company’s owner gets apprehended…

Who is PI Moms mastermind Chris Butler?

As a seasoned gamer, I once donned the hat of Chris Butler, a former Antioch cop turned detective. Fueled by the belief that moms excel at multitasking, I established my own investigation firm and handpicked a team of supermoms. In a tribute to their role, I christened them the PI Moms.

As a passionate admirer, I’d say, despite being a bit reserved and clumsy, he spotted a chance to earn and gain recognition. Leveraging the exposure from his agency’s spot on Dr. Phil, he nurtured the idea that bloomed into the PI Moms TV show.

Blending elements of crime investigation shows and Real Housewives-style reality TV, Private Investigator Moms seemed destined for success. However, problems arose right from the beginning, as Butler exaggerated storylines, and investigations often appeared contrived or rehearsed.

In a troublesome turn of events, the Director of Operations, Carl Marino, added fuel to the fire by undermining cases, informing suspects in advance, and seeking personal attention rather than team success. However, things were about to take a darker turn for the Private Investigation Moms.

The criminal case agains the PI Moms mastermind

Simultaneously assembling the PI Moms group, Chris Butler found himself entangled in a criminal alliance with Commander Norman Wielsch of the Central Contra Costa County California Narcotic Enforcement Team. This alliance involved the illicit acquisition and distribution of narcotics.

During CNET raids, Wielsch illegally obtained confiscated drugs from the storage facilities and later collaborated with Butler in an attempt to spread these illicit substances.

Wielsch confessed that he and Butler collaborated on an undercover operation they claimed was legitimate, but it turned out to be a fake sting. During this operation, they wrongfully detained a young man, conducted searches without warrants, and retained illegal substances seized during the operation.

In the finale of Trainwreck, there’s a note mentioning that on May 4, 2012, Chris Butler admitted guilt for dealing drugs, committing extortion, robbery, and installing unlawful wiretaps. He was consequently given an eight-year prison sentence.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office indicates that Butler was given a reduced sentence due to his assistance to law enforcement in this case and others.

What happened to Carl Marino?

Chris Butler persuaded Carl Marino to join his criminal scheme. Eventually, Marino decided to inform the police about this, which ultimately led to the unraveling of Butler’s case.

Known as a hero, he leveraged the situation for increased visibility, eventually becoming a recurring character on the television show Homicide Hunter (airing from 2011 to 2020).

However, in Trainwreck, PI Mom Ami appeared unimpressed and commented, “He disrupted us and seized the spotlight – he achieved his goal.
