The streaming platform Amazon Prime Video has given its approval for “Taurasi,” a compelling three-part documentary series that delves into the life and professional journey of renowned basketball player, Diana Taurasi.
Prior to retiring in 2024, Diana Taurasi had a versatile career playing both shooting guard and point guard positions. She kicked off her professional journey at the University of Connecticut, where she won an impressive three NCAA championships. After that, she was drafted first-round by the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, starting her tenure with them in 2004. Throughout her time with the Mercury, she helped win three WNBA titles and represented Team USA at the Olympics, earning six consecutive gold medals from the 2004 games through to 2024. Beyond the U.S., Taurasi boasts a collection of six Euroleague championships, having played for five different teams in Russia and Turkey during her international stints.
The documentary series will showcase conversations with Taurasi, along with her relatives, fellow players, coaches, and reporters who have chronicled her career. In essence, it delves into the intricate yet awe-inspiring journey of Taurasi. Known for her relentless competitiveness and unabashed nature, she has faced criticism not only on the court but also off it. Her time spent playing in Russia and Turkey is part of this story. Despite the scrutiny, her steadfast loyalty towards her teammates and deep family ties have been just as significant in shaping her as her exceptional and bold playing style.
The docuseries “Taurasi” originates from a collaboration between Prime Video Sports, Skydance Sports, Meadowlark Media, and the Institute. Difficult Media is also involved in its production. Katie Bender Wynn assumes the role of director and executive producer, with Jesse Sisgold, Jason Reed, and Jon Weinbach from Skydance Sports, John Skipper and Deirdre Fenton from Meadowlark Media, Lauren Greenfield and Frank Evers from Institute, and Kate Fagan serving as additional executive producers.
