Michael C. Hall points out the one single misstep that won’t be making.
Discussing with Michael C. Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips, they shared insights on how the upcoming “Dexter: Resurrection” will steer clear of one of the franchise’s most notable mistakes. Regarding whether the next installment is considered a limited or standalone series, Phillips stated confidently, “We have the strongest franchise in Showtime’s history, and we intend to keep this going for many years.
Hall mentioned that the “years” are plural, suggesting multiple seasons rather than a single one-off episode. He also expressed that while the story may not return immediately for further exploration, it’s left open to potential continuation. The aim is for the narrative to progress beyond this point. The star further commented that even if the future storyline only lasts for a single season, it would be difficult to keep Dexter Morgan away from television screens for long due to his more relatable and human portrayal as a horror trope character who refuses to give up easily.
The character Hall plays is the title’s serial killer antagonist, modeled after Jeff Lindsay’s novel series known as “Dexter.” The first book was published in 2004 as “Darkly Dreaming Dexter.” This series focuses on Hall’s character, Dexter Morgan, a blood splatter analyst for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department who secretly murders criminals. Over 8 seasons and 96 episodes, the original show spawned various spin-offs, such as “Dexter: New Blood” in 2021 and the upcoming prequel, “Dexter: Original Sin,” in 2024. The next installment, titled “Dexter: Resurrection,” will follow the events of “Dexter: New Blood,” which ended with Dexter’s apparent death while his son Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, fled for a new life away from New York.
Dexter: Original Sin Will Also Be Returning
The upcoming ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ has officially been confirmed, offering enthusiasts more of their beloved serial killer character. In this new series, Patrick Gibson portrays a younger Dexter Morgan as he embarks on his career with Miami Metro. Christian Slater joins the cast as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father and mentor in both serial killing and detective work at Miami Metro homicide. The show delves into not only the early days of Dexter’s career but also significant relationships from his past, with Christina Milian and James Martinez playing younger versions of characters Maria LaGuerta and Angel Batista, who were previously played by Lauren Vélez and David Zayas. The first season garnered mixed reviews, praised for its faithful continuation of the franchise while also being criticized for adhering to familiar formulas.
Dexter: Resurrection is expected to debut this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
