As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited “Dexter: Resurrection” will make its grand entrance on July 11, streaming exclusively on Paramount+. Two episodes will be available for viewers like us on that day. Two days later, on July 13, it’ll grace our screens on Showtime, marking its official broadcast debut there. Can’t wait!
The upcoming “Dexter” series installment, hinted at in a trailer, shows Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter Morgan, the vigilante serial killer character he plays. In the clip, he’s seen reading a newspaper with an eyebrow raised and a smirk, suggesting that an article titled “Dexter Morgan Is Dead” has caught his attention.
The initial “Dexter” television show aired on Showtime from 2006 until 2013, and the spin-off series titled “Dexter: New Blood” premiered in 2021. In the finale of “New Blood,” it seemed that Dexter had perished; however, this was later verified by showrunner Clyde Phillips. Therefore, the announcement of Michael Hall’s return in “Resurrection” last summer came as a surprise to fans of the franchise. Additionally, Hall provided voiceover for the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin,” which debuted in 2024.
Titled “Dexter: Resurrection,” the story unfolds weeks after Dexter Morgan, shot by his own son, regains consciousness to discover Harrison (Jack Alcott) missing without a trace. Stricken with guilt for his actions towards Harrison, Dexter embarks on a journey to New York City in search of him, aiming to rectify past mistakes. However, finding peace won’t be straightforward. As Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) comes knocking with queries, Dexter recognizes that his past is swiftly catching up to him. In the city that never rests, father and son delve deeper into their own shadows, soon discovering that the only escape lies in unity.
Among Hall, Alcott, and Zayas, the cast also features Uma Thurman playing Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine portraying Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf in the role of detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez acting as Elsa Rivera, James Remar depicting Dexter’s father Harry Morgan, and Peter Dinklage taking on the character of Leon Prater. Notable guest stars include Neil Patrick Harris as Lowell, Krysten Ritter as Mia, Eric Stonestreet as Al, and David Dastmalchian as Gareth.
As a devoted cinephile, I’d like to share some behind-the-scenes details about this captivating series. The executive producers are Phillips, Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Marcos Siega, with the latter taking on the role of director for six episodes. Monica Raymund is also part of the directorial team, helming four episodes. This compelling production is brought to life by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios, and it’s distributed worldwide by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
