‘Dexter’ Prequel Series ‘Original Sin’ Sets Premiere Date, Drops First Teaser

As a self-proclaimed “Dexter” enthusiast with over two decades of crime-drama viewing under my belt, I must say that the upcoming prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” has me more intrigued than a blood trail at a murder scene. The return of Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan and the promise of Christian Slater as his father Harry, not to mention the stellar cast including Sarah Michelle Gellar, is enough to send shivers down any serial killer fan’s spine.

The prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” has set its premiere date on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Starting December 13th, the series will first be available on Paramount+ for both streaming and on-demand, with Showtime subscribers getting early access before it airs linearly on December 15th. From December 13th, the series will also start being released internationally on Paramount+.

Showtime has unveiled a sneak peek for the new series, with original “Dexter” actor Michael C. Hall providing the voiceover as he states, “I’m a murderer, yet I didn’t become one by nature. I was transformed.

The full teaser can be seen below.

“Dexter: Original Sin” comprises 10 episodes, set in Miami, Florida in 1991. The narrative unfolds as we follow Dexter (Patrick Gibson), a student evolving into an avenging serial killer. As his bloodthirsty instincts become too strong to resist, Dexter embarks on a journey to control his inner darkness. With the mentorship of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he develops a Code that helps him target and eliminate those who society deems unworthy, all without attracting law enforcement attention. This proves especially difficult for the young Dexter as he embarks on a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

Besides Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and a notable guest star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, the series ensemble also features an impressive lineup. Moreover, Hall will provide the voice-over for Dexter’s inner thoughts throughout the show.

As a seasoned movie critic, I’m excited to share my thoughts on “Original Sin,” a new series that sees the return of Clyde Phillips as showrunner and executive producer. Joining him in these roles are fellow executives such as Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The legendary Michael Lehmann, director of “Heathers,” steps into the director’s chair and takes on the additional role of executive producer. Robert Lloyd Lewis lends his production expertise to the project. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios are the production houses behind this series, with Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif overseeing for Showtime Studios. Tara Power supervises production, and Paramount Global Content Distribution distributes the series outside of Paramount+ markets. I can’t wait to see what these talented minds bring to life on the small screen!
