As a long-time fan of the Dexter series, I must say that Episode 5 of Dexter: Original Sin has been quite the rollercoaster ride! The tension from the cliffhanger ending of the previous episode was palpable and it was exciting to see how it all unfolded.
The way they interwove flashbacks into the present narrative really added depth to Harry’s character, giving us a glimpse into his past struggles and regrets. The scene where Dexter confronts Harry in the kill room was particularly gripping, showcasing the complex dynamic between mentor and protégé.
I found it amusing how Dexter managed to knock out both Harry and Levi Reed with just one punch each. I guess we can say that our beloved serial killer is truly multitalented!
Overall, I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing where the story goes next. Will Dexter finally take down Levi Reed? Only time will tell. Until then, I’ll be counting down the days until the next episode drops!
In the fifth episode of Dexter: Original Sin titled ‘F is for Fiasco,’ Dexter finds himself grappling with the repercussions of his significant mistake involving Mad-Dog, as Miami-Met experiences a catastrophic setback in the Levi Reed case. (Be advised: major spoilers lie ahead!)
In the finale of Dexter: Original Sin’s Episode 4, the storyline took an unexpected turn. Just as Dexter was on the verge of executing Mad-Dog, a former assassin, his intended victim suddenly regained consciousness and managed to escape before Dexter could act.
Unluckily, things took a turn for the worse as a passing vehicle accidentally hit Mad-Dog during his chase, which puts Dexter in a tight spot and forces him to act swiftly to avoid being apprehended.
In the latest installment, I find myself continuing my twisted journey just as before, with Dexter using the recent mishap as a chilling guidepost for his future exploits as a serial killer.
Dexter gets punished in Original Sin Episode 5
Amidst the traffic turmoil caused by Mad-Dog’s crash, Dexter swiftly dashes towards the house. With Miami police expected any moment, he quickly sets about cleaning up some of the mess in a bid to avoid trouble. The authorities do show up, but he skillfully conceals himself until he can slip away unnoticed.
At home, Harry is already there, having learned about it through the police radio. Enraged by Dexter’s mistake, he decides to punish him by confining him at home, thus stopping him from going out and potentially causing more harm.
The following day, Harry sets out towards the train station for some investigative work. Fortunately, it seems that nothing links Dexter to the event at hand. Simultaneously, Dexter finds himself confined at home. Feeling restless and craving something, he rummages through the fridge and devours a box of brownies, little did he know these were Deb’s marijuana-laced brownies from her party last night.
As a therapist who has worked with countless individuals navigating complex relationships, I’ve come to understand that love often doesn’t follow a straightforward path. In this instance, it appears Harry finds himself in a deeply challenging situation. He’s married to Doris, but his heart seems to belong elsewhere – to Laura, whom he’s also working with professionally as an informant within the drug ring.
This intricate emotional web is a common manifestation of unresolved feelings and conflicting loyalties. It’s a situation that can lead to heartache and confusion for all parties involved. Harry’s predicament underscores the complexities of human emotions and the need for self-awareness and courage when faced with such difficult choices.
In my experience, it’s essential to acknowledge these feelings honestly before making decisions that could have lasting consequences. It might be time for Harry to take a hard look at his heart and weigh the potential outcomes of pursuing Laura while still married to Doris. Only then can he make the choice that aligns with his values and brings him peace in the long run.
Dexter and Deb think about their mom
In the here and now, I find myself rehearsing my forthcoming statement for the trial of Levi Reed – a suspect we firmly believe is linked to the series of grisly murders that have gripped Miami.
In the evening, Deb arrives home to discover Dexter in a state of intoxication on the couch. She chooses to spend time with him by sharing a brownie and reminiscing about their mother. The following day marks the anniversary of their mother’s passing, and Deb is committed to commemorating her. They decide, along with Harry, to pay their respects at her grave at 5pm the next day.
The next day, Dexter is allowed back at work. But upon his return, Harry assigns him a task (clearly intended as a subtle reprimand) – to gather fingerprints from the man who hit Mad-Dog. This individual is being questioned by LaGuerta right now and seems quite distressed about the collision. However, he doesn’t disclose any information that could potentially incriminate Dexter.
For now, our potential wrongdoer has escaped punishment, but he understands he must correct his error by becoming more effective and strategic in the future. Luckily, advice comes from Tanya, who regrets a loss at the racetrack. Upon hearing that her chosen horse will be tranquilized, she wonders what drug could subdue an animal of such size. The answer? Etorphine.
Harry gets torn down in the Reed case
In the courtroom for Levi Reed’s trial, I found myself at the receiving end of some tough questioning from the defense team. They cleverly pointed out that Miami-Met had no substantial physical proof linking Reed to the murders. To add fuel to their argument, they presented a witness who had once attempted to vouch for Reed. Initially, I had brushed off her alibi due to her history of drug use and lack of trustworthiness. However, the judge overruled my concerns, and unfortunately, the case against Reed was dropped.
In the meantime, Dexter slips away on a quest to locate some Etorphine. He heads to a barn and releases a horse to divert the workers, allowing him to sneak into the veterinarian’s office to search for what he needs. Successfully obtaining it, he narrowly escapes detection when the vet returns, forcing him to hide in a stable with an agitated horse.
At home, Deb is anticipating the arrival of Harry and Dexter, but they’re running late. Frustrated, she gives Gio a call to come get her. He drives her to Doris’ grave instead, where she breaks down in tears, expressing her feelings that neither her father nor brother seem to notice her. Meanwhile, Dexter discovers from Angel at the station that Harry didn’t return following the trial.
In a state of despair following his setback, Harry visits Doris’ burial site. In a subsequent flashback, we see him confiding in Laura about the tragic loss of his child due to drowning. Upon returning home to Doris, she shares the news that she’s expecting.
Back on their “date,” Deb and Gio sit by the water in his car and get friendly.
Dexter proves himself to Harry
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Harry finds himself at a tavern, consuming alcohol excessively. Suddenly, Captain Spencer appears and informs him that as a result of his questionable actions, he’s been moved down to the lowest rank on the homicide team to avoid severe penalties.
Following their departure from the bar, Harry locates Levi Reed. Under the influence, he retrieves his firearm and sets off towards him, only for Dexter to unexpectedly appear and render him unconscious. A short while later, Harry regains consciousness in Dexter’s ‘kill room’, finding himself bound by plastic wrap and unable to move. Despite his alarm, Dexter is merely demonstrating the improvements he’s made in his murder techniques.
Following his demonstration of abilities, he liberates Harry. Dexter notes that Harry never sought to alter him, but rather “molded” him instead. He feels the Reed case is “the purpose you created for me,” and urges Harry to release him after Reed. Harry ponders this for a moment, but eventually consents, convinced they have sufficient proof to warrant the act.
As the episode comes to a close, Deb and Gio relax in his car following their intimate moment, while Dexter tidies up his house after stowing away his murder tools. The next day, he visits Doris’ grave and bids farewell, at last recognizing that she had always wanted to aid him and perceived goodness within him.
