As a seasoned crime analyst with years of experience under my belt, I must say that this latest chapter in Dexter’s life is as intriguing as ever. The way he meticulously plans his kills, always leaving no trace behind, is a testament to his unique skill set. However, it seems that this time, fate may have other plans for him.
In the fourth episode of ‘Original Sin’, titled ‘Fender Bender’, Dexter identifies a possible new target for his dark desires, while an unsettling revelation unfolds in Miami-Met. (Please be aware: significant plot details follow!)
In simple terms, Episode 3 of Original Sin concluded with a mixed feeling of optimism for Dexter. He had managed to apprehend and eliminate Ferrer, who had some unfinished matters with Angel. However, when he submerged Ferrer’s body in the swamp, the alligators didn’t attack an arm, suggesting that this specific crime might resurface as a problem for our aspiring serial killer in the future.
In Episode 3, the narrative shifts away from the Ferrer storyline, instead focusing on an unsettling turn of events within the Judge Powell case. Upon the discovery of a corpse, Miami-Met finds itself scrambling for additional clues in their ongoing investigation.
In the meantime, Dexter continues his search for another victim, while Deb expresses her rebellion following feelings of familial abandonment. Let’s delve into a detailed summary of Dexter: Original Sin Episode 4!
Miami Metro makes a shocking discovery in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 4
Episode 4 commences with an unsettling start as a pair of roller skaters dressed in neon glide along the sandy shore. Their peaceful skate is interrupted by the grim discovery of a corpse dangling from a tree, revealing it to be Judge Powell’s son.
Shortly afterward, the Miami-Met team, with Dexter among them, arrived at the crime scene for investigation. Under immense pressure, Captain Spencer instructed a frustrated LaGuerta to head over to examine another corpse located in Coconut Grove.
In the scene, Dexter appears distressed near Powell’s son’s body; his inner thoughts reveal a deep sensitivity to child murder victims. To ease his discomfort and involve him further in the investigation, Harry assigns Dexter to accompany Officer Sanders to the Coconut Grove crime scene. Meanwhile, Deb and Sofia are alarmed when they discover that Harry has taken the truck, leaving them unable to transport the rest of their volleyball team to the beach.
Upon their arrival, Sanders recounts his initial encounter with a child victim to Dexter, advising him to transform his astonishment into action. Meanwhile, LaGuerta scrutinizes Dexter as he delves into the examination of the body, and he hypothesizes that the victim was gradually strangled while the killer reveled in their crime. Regrettably for him, LaGuerta appears uninterested in his suggestions.
At the same time, Deb is facing some issues of her own. As they’re heading towards the beach, Deb’s rival team member arrives in a shiny new Jeep, whisking away the rest of the team, leaving Deb and Sofia behind.
Dexter comes up with his next kill
Later at the station, Harry persuades Camilla to review Laura’s case file to confirm if Dexter’s name is still listed as being present at the crime scene. While this is happening, we are taken back to their past when Laura was a police informant. On days when she couldn’t come in due to a cancelled babysitter, Harry volunteered to look after both Dexter and Brian for her.
Meanwhile, Deb and Sofia are away acquiring illegal substances for their volleyball team, Dexter comes home, still disturbed by the image of Powell’s son he had seen earlier. Despite Harry’s reassurances that they’re doing all they can, the budding serial killer feels an urgent need to commit another crime to feed his dark desires.
He even has a subject already picked out: Mad-Dog, a contract killer for the mob who now runs fishing charters. He fits their code, but Harry refuses, saying there’s not enough evidence to justify killing him.
Deb unexpectedly overhears a private conversation between Harry and someone else, which soon escalates into an argument. Not waiting long, she gets angry at Harry for neglecting her for so long. Harry defends himself, going as far as accusing her of being under the influence. Before storming out, she shouts loudly. Just before departing, Harry instructs Dexter to ensure Mad-Dog is proven guilty before taking any action.
Instead, Dexter embarks on an inquiry. He spots Mad-Dog at the dock and attempts to arrange a fishing trip, but is informed he’ll need to hold back. Therefore, he decides to visit the possible victim’s residence instead, rummaging through his possessions until he uncovers a partially torn photograph.
Dexter develops his forensic skills
As Miami-Met detectives labor intensely to gather clues regarding a murder case, Captain Spencer is confronted by his ex-wife who requests him to take their son to a soccer practice. Meanwhile, inside Spencer’s office, an adult argument ensues, while Dexter engages the young boy outside, making friends through discussions about video games and sharing candy.
Later on, he demonstrates his growing forensic abilities by setting up a mock crime scene from Coconut Grove (using a few melons and ketchup as props), all to support his hypothesis that the victim was already deceased prior to hitting the ground, due to strangulation.
In the evening’s late hours, Deborah and Sofia prepare themselves for a night at the club, coinciding with Dexter meticulously reconstructing a torn photograph retrieved from Mad-Dog’s residence. His efforts bear fruit as he identifies the photo as that of Omar Reyes, an individual linked to money laundering scheduled to appear in court the week after. He has no history of being a victim; rather, he is Mad-Dog’s upcoming target.
At the social gathering within the club, Deb successfully takes some champagne from a party hosted by a successful boxer. However, she’s spotted by his friend, Gio, who wins her over with his charm and offers her his contact information.
In the past, while Harry was worried, he thought young Dexter had wandered away. Thankfully, the situation improved when he discovered Dexter in the backyard, mourning over a deceased lizard. Harry consoled him, explaining, “death is an aspect of life.
A fishing trip gone wrong
Dexter was preparing to approach Mad-Dog, but his plans were foiled when he learned a family would be accompanying them on the fishing trip that day. Out at sea, Dexter tried to build rapport with Mad-Dog and inquire about his past, yet the family constantly kept him occupied and hindered his ability to extract much detail.
At home, Deb feels irritated upon realizing Harry is away once more, prompting her to phone Gio for a lift. They depart in Gio’s luxury vehicle, making their way to his residence, where she affectionately kisses him.
In Harry’s flashback, Laura comes home to find him reading a bedtime story to Dexter. When they have a moment alone, she kisses him and the two end up making love.
Currently, Dexter is taking action for the first time. Upon returning home, Mad-Dog encounters an immediate assault from a younger man. However, as he attempts to strip and subdue Mad-Dog, he regains consciousness. The two then engage in a life-or-death struggle, with Dexter narrowly escaping being suffocated by the plastic sheets covering the room.
Eventually, Mad-Dog manages to break free and dashes into the road, with Dexter in close pursuit. However, a sudden and swift vehicle catches up to Mad-Dog, leaving Dexter helplessly watching as Mad-Dog is struck by the car that appeared out of nowhere.
If Mad-Dog is still living, there’s a chance his secrets could be exposed by Dexter’s plan. But should Mad-Dog be deceased, Dexter may need to hunt for another fitting target instead.
