Although some believe that Devil May Cry 5 is the pinnacle of the series, it’s widely accepted that DMC 3 was the most outstanding game, though its 2005 release limited its potential (a remarkable achievement in itself). Now, enthusiasts are working on a new project called Crimson Mod, aiming to bring the game up-to-date with modern standards. In essence, this mod could be our closest experience to a remaster of Devil May Cry 3—at least for the time being.
Devil May Cry 3 Crimson Mod Is the Closest Thing to a Remaster – For Now
If you’ve taken the time to watch numerous speedruns of Devil May Cry 3 like I have, you’ll understand that the DMC3 fanbase remains fervent and committed. A frequent topic of conversation among them is that while DMC3 stands out for its action-packed gameplay and meticulous design within the series, it falls short in some areas of refinement and user-friendly features that are present in later games.
So far, up until this point, a new modification named Crimson Mod has emerged. This mod can be found on Nexus Mods and GitHub, and it’s what DMC3 fans have been yearning for – refinements that should have been present from the beginning. The mod boasts a fresh HUD design modeled after Devil May Cry 5, enhanced lock-on and camera systems for smoother combat control and visibility, and local co-op play with an extensive array of customizable options. It also includes on-the-fly style switching, a feature that was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the HD remaster, as well as many other improvements.
The fun doesn’t end there with Crimson Mod. It introduces sophisticated features akin to Devil May Cry 4, such as inertia and guardfly mechanics, a user-friendly weapon wheel for swift transitions, minimized input delay, and innovative gameplay modes like Legendary Dark Knight and Must-Style. In numerous aspects, it seems like the reimagining or upgraded version fans have long been yearning for.
Absolutely, this mod isn’t endorsed by the creators, but you’ll need the Devil May Cry HD Collection to apply it. Although we may not have an official remaster just yet, there’s still a glimmer of hope since series creator Hideki Kamiya is working with Capcom again and has shown interest in rebooting the first game. So while we wait for something official, Crimson Mod can provide a suitable alternative for now.
