As a dedicated fan who’s spent countless hours exploring the enchanting world of Core Keeper, I must admit that the absence of the fishing minigame has left a rather large void in my virtual piscatorial pursuits. The game, with its charming art style and captivating gameplay, has become a staple in my digital escapades, but the removal of this interactive activity has undeniably caused a ripple effect.
Steam’s Early Access program can sometimes be a blessing and a curse. On the positive side, it allows promising games to develop and evolve. However, some developers misuse it by keeping their games in Early Access indefinitely. It appears that Core Keeper falls into the former category. The game’s sudden success upon its full release took even its creators by surprise. However, some players might have noticed the absence of a feature that was initially available – the fishing minigame. So, what gave? Why did it disappear? Will it reappear? Let’s explore!
Absence of fishing minigame in Core Keeper explained
After the official launch of Core Keeper, the number of players dramatically increased (according to SteamDB), reaching its highest point ever. Unfortunately, there were some issues, as the game introduced bugs associated with unfinished crossplay functionality that appears to cause crashes. It’s common for a game to have many new features and mechanics upon leaving Early Access, often accompanied by a large content update. Indeed, this was the case here. However, it seems that not all aspects were adequately fine-tuned for the release date, as the fishing minigame has been taken out.
Since Core Keeper’s last free weekend on August 22, 2024, the interactive element of this activity seems to be absent. The developers initially stated that they took it out “to enhance fishing”, but there’s been no mention of its return. Later, in their 1.0 release post, they slightly altered their explanation, saying that the fishing minigame was removed “in response to player feedback to improve the experience”, hinting at future improvements for the fishing mechanic. However, some fans speculate that it was because the minigame was frustrating, hindering progression, and difficult, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
We haven’t received any updates regarding the return of the feature. The developers are currently working on features they committed to delivering, such as crossplay, but these aren’t fully functioning at this time.
It’s rumored, though not definitively confirmed, that when it is revamped, the minigame could become selectable, implying that players would have the choice to participate in the minigame. Keep an eye on future updates by checking patch notes and joining the game’s official Discord server for more information. Enjoy!
