Destroy the Mines or Fight Darle? The Crucial Choice in Avowed’s Fires in the Mine Quest

In the game Avowed, one of your early side quests after entering the Shatterscarp region involves putting out a fire in an old sulfur mine located in the Deadfall Highlands. An Aedyran Soldier at Eagle’s Reach informs the Envoy that their attempts to reopen the mine have been thwarted due to a large number of spiders inhabiting it. Your task is to eliminate these spider nests, and eventually, you’ll face a significant decision that needs your attention.

How to Repair the Sulfur Mine Camp Elevator in Avowed

After initiating the “Fires in the Mine” mission, your initial step will be navigating towards the mine encampment. Along the journey, you’ll encounter a few worried miners expressing concern over a malfunctioning elevator crucial for reaching their camp. Therefore, before proceeding to the mine encampment, it is essential that you fix the broken elevator first.

To fix the elevator, place some Electric Lilly Seeds (electric bombs) and target the wooden panel to the right (as indicated in the image above). Once you’ve thrown the electric bomb, the elevator’s mechanism will be activated, allowing you to pull the lever below to summon it down.

At the mining camp, you’ll find Seyon, who will fill you in about the significance of restarting the sulfur excavation sites. Prior to descending into the mine, you’ll run into a soldier named Darle, who will be delighted to see the Envoy on location.

Destroying Spider Nests in Fires in the Mine Quest

Once you’ve gained access to the mine, your primary task is to eliminate two spider nests as part of the “Fires in the Mine” quest within Avowed. You’ll find the first nest near the mine entrance. To get there, just stick to the path and ascend the stairs until you reach an open cavern inhabited by a mix of small and large spiderlings. Eliminate these creatures and focus on burning their nest. This can be done using fire spells, explosives, or Kai’s Firestarter ability.

As a keen explorer, following the path from the initial web-ensconced hideout, I’ll navigate past some charred webbing and over a damaged railway track, leading me to the second spider’s lair. Here, I must eliminate these arachnid foes and reduce their nests to ashes. Once both dens have been incinerated, my journey will take me back to the mine encampment.

As you journey along, keep an eye out for a tomb-like structure close to an elevator. Inside this structure, you’ll find a chance to grab some distinctive gloves. Once spotted, step into the elevator and descend to reach the mine’s entrance.

Should You Destroy the Sulfur Mine or Attack Darle?

Moments before the players are about to leave the sulfur mines, they encounter Darle who is posted as a guard at the exit. He asks the Envoy to set fire to the mine in order to prevent a potential war between the two nations. After listening to his reasoning, players will have to decide whether to carry out the destruction of the mines or reject Darle’s proposal and engage him in combat instead.

Should you decide to comply with Darle’s proposition, the mines will be annihilated, ensuring your permanent ban from this location. Additionally, Seyon may express his disapproval of your choice, choosing not to bestow any financial rewards within future quests for players.

Should you decide to defy Darle, you’ll find yourself engaged in a battle with him that serves as a boss fight. Darle is not particularly challenging, given that his arsenal is limited to a single sword and he lacks special attacks. Once you’ve swiftly defeated him, make your way back to Seyon where they will reward you with some coins and show their appreciation. This victory over Darle also grants you the ability to revisit the mines in Avowed at a later time to gather loot following the completion of the Fires in the Mine quest.
