As a long-time Destiny 2 fan, I’ve been through thick and thin with Bungie. From the Halo days to the cosmic adventures of the Destiny universe, they’ve always managed to keep me hooked. But this latest situation has left me feeling like I’ve just been shot in the foot by a Nerf gun that looks suspiciously familiar.
Typically in gaming, when a weapon is ‘nerfed’, it loses some of its effectiveness or appeal. However, Bungie’s real-life replica of Destiny 2’s Ace of Spades gun is actually a Nerf hand cannon. Recently, a Destiny 2 enthusiast has accused the company of using a design that seems to have been inspired by their original online artwork for the Ace of Spades Nerf gun, which dates back almost a decade.
As a gamer, I stumbled upon a post by Tofu Bunny on social media, showcasing their personal art piece from 2015 – an original design for the Ace of Spades Nerf gun. To my surprise, when I compared it to the latest release, there were striking resemblances between the two, almost like a mirror image in some aspects.

Later on, Tofu Bunny made it clear that they suspect a different company hired as a contractor might be at fault for the accusations of design plagiarism, not Bungie itself. However, Tofu Bunny also expressed their disappointment by stating, “It’s like getting hit in the stomach. I’ve been enjoying this game for ten years, and this is just terrible.
Previously, similar claims were made against Bungie, but the firm has always been prompt in addressing such issues. In response to Tofu Bunny’s statement, a representative from Bungie stated they are “conducting an internal investigation along with our partner,” and have also reached out to Tofu Bunny directly.
At present, we’re delving into the matter both independently and with our collaborator. We’ve been in touch with the artist and will disclose further details about our upcoming actions as soon as we have amassed additional information.

TopMob has reached out to Bungie for comment, and will update if we receive a response.
