Submersion is a special combat bow in Destiny 2 that’s worth getting, thanks to its unique perks, though it can be a bit challenging to find.
The Submersion crossbow was added to the game with the Ash & Iron update in Edge of Fate. It’s unique because it’s currently the only crossbow players can get without completing a raid, making it easier for everyone to acquire this type of weapon.
As a fan, I’m really excited about this new weapon! It hits incredibly hard, and honestly, the special abilities are amazing – especially if you already enjoy using Stasis. But even if you don’t usually play with Darkness subclasses, this thing is still a fantastic addition to any Guardian’s arsenal for those tricky neutral game moments. It’s just a really solid, versatile option!

With some special weapons becoming as strong as heavy weapons, it’s often hard to choose anything besides a Sword because of how quickly it lets you move around the map. Also, because players are using their special abilities more often, weapons like Rocket and Grenade Launchers aren’t being used as much anymore.
Okay, so Submersion lets you play things a little differently. Instead of going for huge, instant damage, it’s all about consistent damage-over-time. I’ve been using Combat Bows, and they’re awesome for that. They don’t do massive hits all at once, but each arrow sticks in the enemy and keeps chipping away at their health. There’s this stat called ‘Persistence’ that basically controls how long those arrows stay stuck and keep doing damage – it’s really cool!
Empowered Rail and Charged Bolts work great together, boosting how long effects last and how much damage is dealt over time.

After you’ve fired your initial shots, focus on dealing damage with other weapons. Auto-Loading Holster automatically reloads your weapon, letting you quickly switch back to Submersion to fire a few more shots before using your abilities and your favorite special weapon – most likely a rocket launcher or pulse rifle. For the second perk, Chill Clip adds Stasis effects and extra damage over time.
Combat Bows aren’t currently a top choice in player-versus-player combat. You can have some success with the Submersion perk and an Impulse Amplifier, especially when combined with Chill Clip or High Ground, but generally, a Sword or Machine Gun will be more effective.
How to get Submersion
Right now, you can only earn the Submersion mod by participating in Weekly Events. The Combat Bow, which was previously available during the launch event for Ash & Iron, is now a random reward from Iron Banner. But after Iron Banner ends on September 23rd, the only way to get more Submersion will be through future Weekly Events.
That covers everything about the Submersion fusion rifle, but it’s not the only powerful weapon in Destiny 2 right now. If you’re looking for more ways to build a strong character, check out our guides for the Seraphine Haze and Unfall weapons.
