Bungie has unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming extended narrative in Destiny 2, which they are calling the Fate Saga. This long-term tale spans multiple years and kicks off with a series of four expansions collectively referred to as “The Year of Prophecy.
Commencing on July 15, 2025, gamers will embark on an adventure to the enigmatic Kepler planetoid with The Edge of Fate. This journey may lead to more puzzles about the cosmos than solutions. Following this, on December 2, 2025, we can anticipate the expansion Renegades. According to Bungie’s updated content plan, two expansions will be released annually from now on instead of episodes. Consequently, players will experience more frequent and densely-packed expansions as opposed to the previous 1-2 year gap between releases.
Between each expansion in Destiny 2, there will be significant updates that Bungie is calling “Major Updates.” These include changes to the gameplay environment, new events, modifications, challenges, new gear, and Artifact mods, among other things. The first major update of the Season of Reclamation, named Ash & Iron, will launch on September 9, 2025. Following this, during the Renegades and Season of Lawless, the Shadow & Order update is scheduled for release on March 3, 2026. Notably, these major updates are free for all Destiny 2 players, and the content they introduce will always remain part of the game. Each major update is roughly as large as the Into the Light seasonal update, packed with numerous events and new content to discover.
Beyond what’s been mentioned so far, we’ve also got names lined up for expansions during the Year of Prophecy that stretch into 2026. First up is Shattered Cycle, set to debut in the summer of 2026. And as a grand finale to this epic year, we have The Alchemist scheduled for winter 2026.
According to Bungie, they’ve pledged to unveil an abundance of fresh locations, innovative gameplay elements, and perhaps some fan-favorites. This announcement includes a personalized difficulty setting for various destinations, details of which can be found in this linked article.
