In just a short while, we’re approaching Act 3 of Destiny 2: Episode Heresy, brimming with fresh content. Among its offerings is the much-awaited Rite of the Nine activity that fans have been eagerly waiting for.
Just as Echoes and Revenant preceded it, Act 3 serves as the concluding part of the saga known as Heresy. This act provides a resolution to the tales of Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath, while subtly hinting at what may lie ahead in the upcoming Frontiers.
Bungie has been mostly quiet about it, but if Heresy is meant to set the stage for Destiny 2’s upcoming grand narrative, a conclusion hinting at the future journey of the Guardians could certainly be in play.
Beyond what’s already mentioned, you can expect the standard adjustments and seasonal material, such as a revival of Strike from the initial Destiny, an innovative Player vs Player mode, and additional Catalysts to pursue for Barrow-Dyad. Here’s a rundown of all the details.
Episode Heresy Act 3 release date
On April 1st, 2025, the Heresy Act 3 will commence, coinciding with Destiny 2’s weekly reset. This marks the last significant update for Destiny 2 prior to the launch of Frontiers in summer 2025, which as of now lacks a specific release date.
Here’s a handy guide for when Destiny 2’s weekly reset happens across different time zones:
1. Pacific Time (PT): Tuesday at 10 PM
2. Eastern Time (ET): Wednesday at 1 AM
3. British Summer Time (BST): Wednesday at 6 AM
4. Central European Time (CET): Wednesday at 7 AM
5. Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST): Wednesday at 3 PM
This way, players worldwide can plan their gaming schedules accordingly!
- Pacific Time (PT): 09:00 – Tuesday
- Eastern Time (ET): 12:00 – Tuesday
- Greenwich Mean Time (GMT): 17:00 – Tuesday
- Central European Time (CET): 18:00 – Tuesday
- Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST): 03:00 – Wednesday
Sunless Cell Strike
With Destiny’s Taken King expansion, The Sunless Cell gets a makeover specifically for Heresy Act 3. It’s unclear yet how this updated version of the Vanguard activity will vary from its initial form, but Bungie has hinted that it won’t be an exact replica of your past experiences.
As a dedicated player, I’m thrilled to confirm that the upcoming expansion will undoubtedly bring some exciting changes. At least, we can expect an overhauled narrative, aligning with Destiny 2’s ongoing storyline progression. Moreover, getting ready for a brand-new final boss is on the agenda. Previously, Aluk-Hul, the Darkblade, served as Oryx’s lieutenant. However, it seems like he’s been replaced, and I can hardly wait to see who takes his place!

Rite of the Nine
In Act 3 of Heresy, there’s an all-new, time-limited event called Rite of the Nine. This event challenges Guardians to conquer revamped and more challenging (if you select the highest difficulty) variations of previously encountered dungeons.
During this event, separate editions of Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep will be interchangeably accessible, allowing any Guardian to tackle their missions. Completing these challenges will earn you a bounty of legendary weapons, featuring updated designs and perk sets.

Heavy Metal
Instead of adding another intense Player versus Player (PvP) game mode similar to Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner, Bungie is planning to bring a playful twist to its upcoming expansion for the Crucible.
Understandably, the title “Heavy Metal” signifies a game centered around intense vehicle combat, where two groups of defenders known as Guardians engage in fierce battles. They pilot either Fallen Brigs (depicted below) or Drake tanks. This promises an incredibly enjoyable arcade-style experience for players.

Barrow-Dyad Catalysts
In Act 3 of Heresy, you’ll find the remaining pair of Catalysts that complete Barrow-Dyad’s set of four. Upon finishing their respective missions, Guardians will gain the ability to enhance the Exotic Strand Submachine Gun with two new perks: One For All and Target Lock.
The specific method of unlocking them remains unknown, but you should anticipate needing a comparable level of effort as was necessary for the Catalysts in Act 2.

Artifact mods
In Act 3, you’ll gain access to the last row of mods from Heresy’s Artifact during the final act. As of now, it’s still a mystery what these mods are exactly. However, this season has seen Trace Rifles, Strand, and Arc as the top choices so far.
Given that Bungie may wish to prevent any items from becoming overpowered within the current gameplay environment, there’s a strong possibility they will focus on boosting the power of underachieving subclasses or weapon categories instead, so they can hold their own more effectively.
Here’s what we currently understand regarding Act 3 of Heresy. For additional Destiny 2 information, explore the entire lineup of weapons introduced during Heresy, along with top-tier PvE and PvP firearms that are performing exceptionally well at the moment.
