Though it hasn’t traditionally shone, this year’s updates to its perks have given it a significant boost, making it an excellent choice for battling fellow players in the Crucible. If you’ve been having trouble acquiring a reliable Matador 64, Compass Rose could provide comparable stats and be more manageable to acquire. It’s not just effective in PvP; with its new perks, Compass Rose could rival some of the top shotguns in the current meta. Here’s how to obtain Compass Rose during Solstice of Heroes and which rolls you should prioritize.

How To Get Compass Rose

During the Solstice of Heroes event, the Compass Rose is one of the four weapons that can be obtained. To acquire it, you’ll need to participate in the Solstice event, which can be accessed from the Tower map in the Director. Completing the event has a chance to reward you with the Compass Rose among other random weapons. Additionally, you might find Compass Roses occasionally in Solstice packages, event card achievements, and bounties that you finish during the event. However, the most consistent method for farming the Compass Rose is by completing runs of Bonfire Bash.

  • Barrel: Small Bore
    • +7 Range, +7 Stability
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
    • +10 Range
  • First Perk: Slickdraw / Threat Detector / Slideshot
    • Slickdraw: Significantly increases handling, significantly decreases target acquisition.
    • Threat Detector: Increased reload speed, stability, and handling when enemies are in close proximity.
    • Slideshot: Sliding partially reloads this weapon’s magazine and temporarily boosts range and stability.

    • Improved accuracy and range on the opening shot of attack.

For PvP shotguns, the standard combination of perks is often Threat Detector and Opening Shot. This year, Compass Rose can now include these perks following its update. However, there’s a growing belief that Slickdraw might be a superior choice instead. A high handling rate on a PvP shotgun is beneficial because you want to swiftly draw the gun for a close-range blast to an opponent’s face, either to finish off a wounded enemy or catch someone off guard in tight spaces. Slickdraw increases Compass Rose’s handling by 100 points, but at short range, target acquisition isn’t as crucial. Threat Detector also enhances handling, but it necessitates being near two opponents for its advantage, whereas Slickdraw doesn’t require any specific conditions.

Instead of Slideshot, consider using another shotgun for PvP combat if you prefer a more stationary playstyle. However, if you enjoy swift and agile gameplay, Slideshot could be an excellent choice due to its ability to increase your shotgun’s range immediately after sliding. This makes it ideal for quickly approaching a corner and surprising opponents, even when they’re not perfectly positioned for a close-range attack.

With Opening Shot enhancing Compass Rose’s lethal reach, and by maximizing range in your other selections, you aim to make Compass Rose as dependable as possible for those single-shot finishes or decisive kills.

    • Melee final blows or dealing damage with a charged melee reloads this weapon’s magazine from reserves.
  • Second Perk: Trench Barrel / One-Two Punch
    • Trench Barrel: After a successful melee hit, this weapon gains increased damage, handling, and reload speed for a short duration–or until three shots are fired.
    • One-Two Punch: Hitting an enemy with every pellet in a shot increases melee damage for a short duration.
  • Masterwork: Handling / Reload Speed

In Player versus Environment (PvE), while Compass Rose may not always be the top-tier shotgun, it’s certainly beneficial for melee-focused gameplay. Combos such as Trench Barrel and One-Two Punch are particularly effective with punchy builds. Trench Barzel increases Compass Rose’s damage after a successful punch, while One-Two Punch amplifies the power of your melee attacks. Choose the perk that aligns best with your specific build. Furthermore, Grave Robber enables you to use melee attacks to reload the shotgun, addressing any potential slow reloading issues with the weapon.

Instead, Compass Rose may additionally have the ability to emit Incandescent light, a delightful bonus for Solar-focused characters and an effective choice with builds designed to swiftly eliminate numerous minor enemies.
