Destiny 2 accidentally released unfinished Rite of the Nine content

Temporarily, players gained access to Rite of the Nine content from Destiny 2, which was scheduled for release in Heresy Act 3 but became accessible prematurely.

During a live stream on March 4th, it was announced that the Rite of the Nine event will take place in April, coinciding with the arrival of Heresy Act 3.

Players engaged in the Destiny 2 event can expect to encounter three changing dungeons, approximately a dozen freshly introduced weapons, and three distinct levels of challenge.

Interestingly, it turned out that some players of Destiny got early access to certain content due to an unsuccessful maintenance period.

Destiny 2 devs quickly disable unfinished Rite of the Nine additions

On March 11, as scheduled, Destiny 2 went offline for maintenance, but it resumed operations about two hours later than planned. Upon its return, eager players were ready to explore the new features such as this year’s Guardian Games. However, several encountered unexpected issues instead.

By mistake, Bungie activated the Rite of the Nine, allowing players to explore and complete partially developed dungeons such as Prophecy, but they couldn’t access the event’s communal area or social space.

According to Destiny Bulletin’s fan account, certain individuals managed to access event-specific firearms such as the Prosecutor Auto Rifle. However, these weapons were not fully developed; their designs were still in a rough, preliminary stage, similar to greybox levels in game development.

The team at Bungie swiftly took action by suspending the Rite of the Nine activities along with associated rewards. In a social media update, they mentioned that the content is still under development and eagerly anticipate sharing the finished versions at a future time. They express their regrets for any inconvenience caused in the meantime.

Players of Destiny 2 can relax a bit more, as turning off certain activities won’t necessitate another prolonged maintenance session.

Occasionally, Bungie has mistakenly granted early access to weapons that haven’t been released yet. Back in mid-February, a small group of gamers found themselves unexpectedly in possession of Heresy Act 2 weapons via their Destiny Item Manager, long before the Act was scheduled to go live.
