As a die-hard fan of the “Descendants” series, I’m thrilled to dive even deeper into this captivating world as they’re planning a fifth installment! The announcement came straight from Disney Branded Television on Tuesday.
Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker are going to take up their characters once more as Princess Red (Queen of Hearts’ daughter) and Princess Chloe (Cinderella’s daughter). This upcoming movie, slated for release on Disney Channel and Disney+, is gearing up for production very soon. The title for this film will be announced at a later date.
The sequel to ‘Descendants 5,’ titled ‘Descendants: After the Rise of Red,’ continues the story immediately following the events from ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ in 2024, delving into what a true ‘happily ever after’ looks like for Red and Chloe upon their return from their time-travel escapades. Set in contemporary Wonderland, this new installment introduces several fresh characters inspired by ‘Alice in Wonderland’: Liamani Segura as Red’s sister Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook. Leonardo Nam reprises his role as Maddox Hatter, and more characters will be introduced as casting progresses.
Actress Kimmy Gatewood, known for “The Babysitter’s Club” and “Girls5eva,” is taking on directing duties for an upcoming project. The script will be penned by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna (“Sneakerella”), with Dan Frey and Ru Sommer also contributing. Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh, who have been involved in the franchise before, are set to return as executive producers. Gatewood will additionally serve as a co-producer for this project. Emmy award winner Emilio Dosal (“Wicked,” “Sneakerella”) is set to be the choreographer, bringing the fresh music and dance sequences to life.
