Dennis To Returns as Wing Chun Master in ‘Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend’ (EXCLUSIVE)

In a new development, All Rights Entertainment plans to grow the well-known martial arts series by introducing “Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend,” where Dennis To will once again portray the esteemed Wing Chun grandmaster who tutored Bruce Lee – a fact disclosed at the Cannes Film Market.

The movie continues in the vein of “Ip Man: Kung Fu Master” from 2021, featuring To once more and receiving global acclaim for its innovative take on the martial arts legend. This production is a joint effort between Beijing Huiyong Film and Television Media Co. and Well Go, an American distributor nominated for Oscars who specialize in providing top-notch action, genre, and independent films to North American viewers.

At present, the movie titled “Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend” is being produced and it’s anticipated to wrap up filming by the end of the third quarter. Distribution in North America will be overseen by Well Go, across various platforms. The release plan intends to highlight the film’s exhilarating action scenes and cultural significance.

Previously handling global distribution for “Ip Man: Kung Fu Master,” All Rights Entertainment is now responsible for managing international sales of the upcoming sequel.

The “Ip Man” series, starring Donnie Yen, is one of the most renowned martial arts film franchises in the 21st century. Kicking off with Wilson Yip’s blockbuster “Ip Man” in 2008, this epic tale weaves together action sequences styled with flair and dramatic historical events, chronicling its protagonist’s moral evolution amid Japanese occupation, Hong Kong’s post-war era, and the evolving landscape of Chinese identity. Across four main films and various spin-offs like “Ip Man: The Final Fight” and “Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy”, this franchise has proven to be a knockout success, earning critical praise and raking in profits worldwide, catapulting Yen into international fame and rejuvenating the kung fu genre for a contemporary audience.

As a cinephile delving into the realm of martial arts biopics, I’ve found the “Ip Man” spin-offs, featuring Dennis To, to be a refreshing traditionalist take on this genre. Unlike other portrayals, these films present a more modest, youthful interpretation of the legendary Wing Chun master. The saga begins with “The Legend Is Born: Ip Man” (2010), where we meet a humble and less experienced version of our protagonist, as portrayed by To. He then revisits this role in “Ip Man: The Awakening” (2022) and “Ip Man: Kung Fu Master” (2019), continuing the tale of Ip Man’s journey.
