Today, it was announced that the mobile version of the recently popular first-person shooter game, Delta Force, will be released on April 21st this year. Originally launched on Steam towards the end of 2024, Delta Force also added a free campaign mode centered around the story of Black Hawk Down. While this campaign didn’t receive favorable feedback from fans, the game has maintained a steady player base on Steam as per SteamDB.
Delta Force mobile gets a release date, but not all fans are happy
The planned launch date for the Delta Force mobile version was disclosed through a social media update. As per the update, enthusiasts can now “sign up in advance to gain access to unique items you won’t want to overlook.” The post showcases various rewards, such as what appears to be some gun and vehicle skins, alongside charms. In summary, it doesn’t seem particularly groundbreaking.
Personally, I find it quite understandable why some fans are expressing their concerns about the upcoming mobile release, especially since we’re yet to see a console launch or even hear about a release date for those platforms. This sentiment is palpable in the comments section of the mobile announcement on social media. The top comment, for instance, states plainly: “Why focus on mobile? Prioritize consoles and PC.” Many other responses echo this sentiment, with one reading: “Nobody cares about mobile…”, and another user chiming in with: “Console users are still waiting…” Some fans argue that this move might not be the best decision, fearing that the mobile version may not be successful, and the developers should instead concentrate on consoles. As an observer, I’m not entirely convinced by these arguments.
It’s not surprising that console sales are dropping recently, with mobile gaming taking the lead in the video game market. Even though mobile gaming might not be ideal for the developers of Delta Force, it makes strategic sense for them to pursue this larger audience. Many successful free-to-play shooter games, including Call of Duty, Fortnite, PUBG, Rainbow Six, and others, have all launched mobile versions. If it wasn’t effective for those other games, they would have ceased developing mobile versions a long time ago.
At present, we’ll need to keep an eye on the response from fans regarding the mobile version of the game. As of now, Delta Force has a mixed overall rating on Steam, with just 65% of reviews being favorable. However, this hasn’t slowed down the game, as it managed to attract almost 100 thousand concurrent players daily this week. It remains to be seen if Delta Force will maintain its popularity, and it will be intriguing to observe how well it adapts to new platforms.
