Decades-Old Lunar RPGs Are Getting A PS4 And PS5 Remaster

As a veteran gamer who vividly remembers the magical days of the 90s, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news of the Lunar Remastered Collection! The memories of battling through Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue on my trusty old Sega CD still bring a smile to my face.

90’s fan-favorite role-playing games Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue will make a comeback with updated remasters, allowing players to enjoy their classic, non-Final Fantasy, turn-based anime RPG experiences on modern gaming platforms.

Sony unveiled that two timeless games will be back in the form of the Lunar Remastered Collection during its State of Play broadcast. This updated edition includes enhanced graphics and audio, a fresh widescreen mode, and various user-friendly upgrades. Additionally, the new releases come with re-dubbed English voiceovers.

In spring 2025, the updated versions of the Lunar games will be available on PlayStation 4 and PS5. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t revealed any extra information yet. To see the announcement video, click above.

In the 1990s, the Lunar games initially debuted on Sega CD, gaining recognition for their compelling narratives, excellent English translation, thrilling turn-based RPG gameplay reminiscent of classics, and captivating anime scenes. Following its introduction in 1993, multiple reinterpretations and rereleases have surfaced; the most significant being Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete, which made its way to the US on the original PlayStation in 1999.

Ever since those classic Lunar games graced our screens on Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, and mobile devices, it’s been a long road without any new American versions. Specifically, Silver Star Story Complete hasn’t seen an update since its iOS release in 2012, and Eternal Blue has been MIA since its PS launch back in 2000. It feels like forever waiting for these ’90s RPG gems to shine brightly once more.
