Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to be released officially in June, shows hints of connection to Hideo Kojima’s previous work on the Metal Gear Solid series. A character named Neil, portrayed by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, has been introduced, and a fleeting scene where he wears a bandana has sparked excitement among MGS fans.
In the picture provided, Neil bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake when he dons his fighting gear. Back on Instagram in 2020, Kojima hinted that Marinelli would closely resemble Snake if he wore the iconic bandana, and it seems this prediction is coming to fruition in Death Stranding 2.
It’s worth mentioning that this character is often accompanied by multiple soldiers, much like Clifford Unger from Death Stranding, who would always have troops with him when he appeared in the game. This could imply that Neil has passed away and transformed into a post-death entity; someone compelled to finish what was left undone, and capable of traveling to battlefield shores.
In a brief moment, Heartman assumes command of the DHV Magellan submersible and merges it with a colossal being from the tar, battling other titans. This scene seems reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid, as Yoji Shinkawa, who served as art director for 1998’s Metal Gear Solid, also contributed to Death Stranding 2. Therefore, it’s not unexpected to notice design similarities between the Magellan and some aspects from Metal Gear Solid in this game.
As I navigate through this game world, there’s a touch of Pacific Rim vibe in the control system for Magellan Man, subtly reminding me of the director who inspired Deadman’s visuals, Guillermo del Toro.

On the Shore” is set to release for PlayStation 5 on June 26. If you opt for the digital deluxe or collector’s edition, you will gain early access and can start playing from June 24, which is two days before the official launch date.
