Death Stranding 2 Dev Says PS4 To PS5 Upgrade Is Not Exciting, Just “More Efficient”

As stated by Akio Sakamoto, the current chief technical officer at Kojima Productions, we no longer anticipate a new console generation to significantly revolutionize technical capabilities. Instead, he noted that while the gap between the PS4 and PS5 isn’t substantial, it does enhance the development process by making it more efficient.

During an interview with Edge Magazine about Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, set for release on PS5 in June, Sakamoto remarked that the leap in development between the two most recent PlayStation generations isn’t as significant as it once was. While earlier console generations like the original PlayStation to the PS2 saw major advancements, the latest generational upgrade doesn’t offer as much transformative power for developers.

According to Sakamoto, the most noticeable advancement from a technical perspective is the decrease in load times. However, it’s important to note that the distinction between the two hardware systems isn’t particularly significant. Instead, he suggests that the PS5 offers more streamlined methods to achieve comparable objectives.

Sakamoto further elaborates that while our artists enjoy unbridled creativity in designing the world, this lack of constraints sometimes leads to complex issues for our programming team. Essentially, he notes that the artists have gained a level of autonomy that can at times be difficult to manage effectively.

As a passionate gamer, I fondly recall the insights shared by Shawn Layden, former PlayStation head honcho, who once stated, “We’ve reached a stage in hardware development where only dogs can tell the difference.” Now, with Sony and Microsoft reportedly working on their next-gen consoles, it’s intriguing to ponder if Microsoft might take a cue from Nintendo’s innovative approach, focusing more on form factor instead of just cranking up the performance.

As a thrilled fan, I can’t contain my excitement! Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is finally hitting the PS5 shelves on June 26th. This upcoming masterpiece has left test audiences spellbound, much to the dismay of its creator, Hideo Kojima, who yearns for a bit more controversy in his work.
